REI makes it official: It's coming to Folsom
Outdoor clothing co-op REI confirmed Monday that it will open a third Greater Sacramento store in Folsom this fall.
Recreational Equipment Inc. of Seattle said the single-story, 22,500-square-foot store will open in November in the Folsom Gateway Shopping Center at Iron Point Road and East Bidwell off Highway 50.
The store should employ about 50 people, and be similar in size to the 24,500-square-foot store that REI opened in Roseville a year ago.
With that store, the one in Folsom, and REI's existing 32,000-square-foot store near Cal Expo, the retailer is not expected to add any more stores in this market.
REI says it has 33,726 members living the Sacramento area.
The Folsom store will be the co-op's 11th in Northern California. A new store in San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood is due to open in October.
