Check the front page of MyFolsom for a link.

This should be interesting:

no signed tenants yet
a high rise condo
parking on the inside of the mall

should definitely be a different mall for sure! Looks exciting!

Woo-hoo! About time!

I hope the no tenants thing does not backfire, but I doubt it. Somebody just needed the brass to just build it and let the tenants fight for the right to be here. I'm excited. I wonder how big the condo will be? It sounds pretty cool! I hope it's really tall!

That sounds great! What a cool place to live this is. So many exciting things happening. Only thing that'll suck, thousands more people, same damn highway 50.

Well, they could have waited to build it on the other side of 50 to keep all that traffic away from Broadstone wink.gif, but it sounds great as-is.
Both a mall and the hospital on that lot. The article has a mistake though. It says there will be 4000 doctors working there:

"The hospital would, of course, add considerably to the potential shopping population for the project and may even make up for any shortage of new roofs in the Folsom area. Davis estimated there would be 4,000 workers and 4,000 doctors employed in the Kaiser facility."

I wonder if the mall is going to be much smaller than orginally planned since half the land is going to Kaiser now. As long as it is very nice, it won't matter if it's smaller than Arden and Roseville!

Since, they decided to take the risk of building without waiting for anchor stores to step up and commit in advance, they better make it really attractive so stores will be clammoring to get in next year!

I think there would have been plenty of upset people if the mall had been completely shelved after so many people had moved into Broadstone expecting a mall to be nearby soon.

I agree, I hope they make it look nice. I *really* hope they use the same style of architecture as the Broadstone Marketplace (the new Bel Air center)... I really love that style, it was done really well. Kind of has an old Italy feel to it. smile.gif

It all sounds great. Hopefully, no new roadblocks appear.

I wonder what their definition of "high rise condominiums" is?
4 stories? 10?

That could be a great area for hospital workers to live. They would be able to walk to work, the mall and restaurants and across the street to the Bel Air shopping center. They would hardly need a car if light rail ever went out there. I think retirees would love being walking distance to doctors offices and all the other amenities planned.
So, if construction of the first phase of the initial 2 department stores starts late next year, it sounds like that part should be done by early 2006.
Still several years from completion, but at least it's getting underway.

Overall, this looks like a good thing.

Just another mall would of course bring a lot of money to the area, however, it being a mixed-use project makes it interesting.

The article mentions:
"Mixed-use projects theoretically reduce commuting, improving air quality, and are therefore preferred by environmentalists"

I believe this idea is theoretically wrong. I think this project will contribute less than what Arden or Galleria style developments contribute to traffic and pollution. However, much of the bad air blows into our faces from Bay Area and Sac. I hope those areas take note of the Broadstone development.

I am eager to see the final product.

I'm not sure about a mall and a hospital in or around the same location. However, I will be glad when I don't have to drive to Roseville for a shopping mall fix.

As for a condominium, I hope they don't make it too high because it will stand out like a sore thumb in the city and block someone's view of the beautiful sunsets. It should really blend in well with the other structures around town otherwise be prepared for other high rises to be built. I'd like Folsom to keep it's small town feel and not look too much like Roseville.

Maybe the housing would be underground. Less cost for heating and cooling.

10 stories would not be unlike some of the hotels we already have in Folsom, Larksbur Landing, etc.

Larkspur Landing is ony 4 stories.
I am sure there is already a height ordinance and it will be designed to be integrated into the style of the rest of the development. I am not worried about the condo building being a skyscraper that will block the sun.
Even the buildings in Roseville are only a few stories high.
There should be drawings available to view somewhere soon. Probably at the city hall. Maybe they will put it somewhere on their website.

I stand corrected, I guess I thought it was taller...
If I see an image of the plans, I'll be sure to post it.

Maybe there should be a ordinance like the one in Kauai - no buildings taller than the tallest coconut tree.

Not likely to block views, October, especially sunsets. Sun sets in the West, and anything east of those towers will be higher up and quite a distance from the mall property.

Looks like a downscaled mall for sure. I guess after waiting for 12-13 years, a small one is better than none!
