Public Scoping Meetings Scheduled on Mormon Island Auxiliary Dam Modifications (Dike 8 at Folsom Reservoir)

As part of ongoing Safety of Dams work at Folsom Reservoir, the Bureau of Reclamation will modify Mormon Island Auxiliary Dam (MIAD), also known as Dike 8, to reduce hydrologic (flooding), seismic (earthquake), and static (seepage) risks. Reclamation, the lead Federal agency under the National Environmental Policy Act, and the Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency, the lead State agency under the California Environmental Quality Act, will prepare a joint Environmental Impact Statement/Environment Impact Report.

Reclamation is determining the preferred alternative(s) to improve MIAD while minimizing impacts to the public, environment, and surrounding area. Three Open House Scoping Meetings will be held to provide information and solicit public input. Attendees may arrive any time during the meeting hours and talk with subject matter experts at several stations. Information will be provided, questions answered, and public comments will be welcomed:

Two Meetings on Tuesday, December 2, 2008: Folsom Community Center, 52 Natoma Street, Folsom, CA. One afternoon meeting 1-4 pm and one evening meeting 6-9 pm.

One Meeting on Thursday, December 4, 2008: El Dorado Hills Community Services District, 1021 Harvard Way, El Dorado Hills, CA. One evening meeting 6-9 pm.

Public comments will be accepted from Tuesday, December 2, 2008, to Monday, January 5, 2009. Comments on the scope of the project should be mailed to: Ms. Laura Caballero, Bureau of Reclamation, Central California Area Office, 7794 Folsom Dam Road, Folsom, CA 95630-1799, or faxed to 916-989-7109, or e-mailed to MIAD_mods@mp.usbr.gov.
