That can actually be pretty fun...

I think he was agreeing with me....but if not, then maybe he enjoys that fresh second-third-fourth-hand smoke.

My co-worker and I went up last night....we left EDH at 6:30 and took the back roads all the way.....then got on the freeway at Greenstone going West (just one on/off-ramp to the east of the Red Hawk exit. Coming from the west, the traffic was backed up all the way back past the off-ramp.....we didn't have any trouble parking, it went fairly quickly, and we were parked and inside the casino by 7pm.

Gorgeous place! They really spared no expense, and it shows. We ate at the Waterfall Buffet (although I never saw a waterfall...???). Pricey ($18 for dinner), but the food was very good, and plentiful. This was one of the 3 restaurants on the lower level, which is also the non-smoking level. While we ate, we could hear Jim Belushi and the band on the main casino floor.

We wandered around after dinner, dropped a few coins in the slots, saw several co-workers that were there also, and as we were leaving, and had gone up to the main casino floor, we managed to find a great spot to watch Jim Belushi...and while we watched, he did "Soul Man"......it was a lot of fun.

Anyhoo......Very nice, very crowded (last night, anyway), LOTS of slots, the non-smoking floor was relatively smoke-free (the escalator allows some air to drift down from the main casino, but if you're not near the escalator, you won't notice it.). The only negative thing I have to say, and this is for all you non-smokers.....you have to go through the main casino floor which allows smoking to get down to the non-smoking floor, whether it's by using the escalator, or the separate elevator. The bank of elevators that go to the parking garage don't go to the non-smoking floor....and the only elevator that does just goes between the non-smoking and the smoking casino floors. Both of us could feel the smoke in the back of our throats by the time we walked through the main casino to leave, and I coughed for quite a while after I got home. This morning, it's ok...
I assume full responsibility for my actions, except the ones that are someone else's fault.

that really blows (smoke in your face), but at least I don't expect to experience it. I might drive to it one day, just to see what the roads are like and stuff, but I doubt I will bother to stop in.
I would rather be Backpacking

A couple of months ago, I went to their website and signed up for a promotion whereby if one signed up for their frequent loser program, they'd give $10 in free slot play. Being an occasional loser who loves free stuff, I signed up.

My wife and I left at 6pm, and were there by about 630. No traffic until we were down the off ramp a considerable ways. Went to the bottom and found parking right away. Tripped over a cement island sort of thing, which I think is designed to keep cars from going the wrong way. I imagine I won't be the last to trip. It should be painted.

The casino was packed already, and full of smoke. It looked like every other modern casino I've been to. And it was full of smoke.

I saw 2 casino bars on the upper (smoking) floor. The main bar is about 1/2 a circle or so, with a stage above and behind it. Other than a dozen or so barstools, there is no where to sit, and ordering drinks requires you to lean in between the folks on the stools, who are playing video poker.

Well drinks were $3.50. My wife had a mai tai for $5.25.

The Jim Belushi act was, IMO, hokey and amateurish. He came out and strutted about the stage, arms open to the adoring, smoking crowd, then fell on his back and kicked his feet in the air before getting up with stuff falling out of his pockets. He opened with 'Sweet Home Chicago', then went into 'Hard to Handle', and managed to butcher them both. He also lifted his shirt to show us his rather large and hairy belly, which he rubbed seductively. Being only about 20 feet away from him, it was quite unpleasant. I've met blocks of wood with more talent.

Anyway, the restaurant selection looks decent. The steakhouse is expensive but nice. The chinese joint is more expensive than Fat's, and the sushi bar is more expensive than Mikuni. The buffet is $18, but they have seafood on Friday and Saturday for $25.

The buffet is located downstairs on the non-smoking floor. I imagine they'll need the smoking police down there to keep folks from lighting up while waiting in line.

The non-smoking area is small, and I only saw slots. No tables.

My wife wanted another mai tai, and standing with our elbows actually on the bar (not the one with Belushi playing), it took 20 minutes to get a drink.

They have a self-service coffee and soda bar, which was a total mess of spills and balled up napkins.

I put my $10 card in the machine and watched as it ate it all up. There were smokers on both sides of me.

We walked to the elevators, through the smoke, and split.

The parking lot was full, and as we got back on the freeway, we saw that it was backed up to the previous exit.

We threw our clothes in the washer, except for my leather, which I guess will just have to air out.

I may some day go back to try the seafood buffet, but right now, I can't think of another reason to go.

The best part of it was that I ran into a kid who used to be the stock boy at Shoe Fair in Daly City when I worked there. He was 16 back then, 45 now.

The good points:

1) Because we left early, we avoided traffic

2) My wife liked the mai tais.

3) We got a cheap date out of it.

4) I ran into the stock boy from Shoe Fair in Daly City when I worked there. The last time I saw him, he was 16. Now, he's 45.

The black jack tables looked like fun. I only watched one had. No one busted, but the dealer had 16 and drew a 5.

We like going to casinos maybe a couple times a year. We've never lost money and never came home without winning at least a few hundred bucks. We both play blackjack, Andrea is really good at it.

I can't figure out what everyone is complaining about. It's an Indian casino. What did you expect? People smoke in casinos. People gamble in casinos. That shouldn't be a surprise. I'm looking forward to going very soon. I don't expect it to be the Bellagio. The only disappointing thing I've read in this thread so far is that the buffet was expensive. Thunder Valley has a great lunch buffet for $7.99. Don't tell anyone. Or I'll just tell you all right now that people smoke in there so don't go!! (shorter line for me).

People smoke in casinos.

Yes, and it makes for a very unhealthy environment....with very poor ventilation.

I remember when people used to smoke in grocery stores, banks and department stores. european trains were smoked-filled. british pubs.

a few hours once a month in a casino isn't the end of the world. and it doesn't make someone a wacko who feels its worth the risk. we are becoming such a namby pamby people. last time I went to Harrahs, they were smoking in there too. oh, the humanity!!
