We all dream of a world of sunshine and rainbows and peace. The problem is some people think this would be a great place to live, while others think it would be a great place to pillage.

like I said, there is smoke in casinos. no surprise there.

I don't smoke, but its not going to stop me from going. And since I know there is going to be smoke there before I go, I'm not going to complain about it later.

still looking forward to checking out the buffet! smile.gif

We went this past Monday, mainly for the buffet but we also did a little gambling. The buffet is sorely lacking in variety and flavor. The offerings on the weekend include seafood, but it's also more expensive then. We won't be going back anytime soon.

I feel that it is discrimination in the worst way. If they can have a casino then I should be able to have a casino. Why should it be just for the Indians?

We stole their land many years ago. They're now taking it back one hand at a time. wacko.gif

Say what??? It's a buffet. They have salt/pepper/horseradish/ketchup/mustard, a variety of food you rarely see at any buffet and you couldn't find it? Oh, I know. You must have been looking out the window at the scenery. It is nice.....

We did the same. And, while the variety was okay, it wasn't great. The salad bar was not appealing and had limited choices. It seemed like they were serving a lot of brunch items at 2 pm, so maybe the dinner has more selections. I think it is expensive for what you get, at least when you compare it to the $7.99 buffet at Thunder Valley, which is absolutely great. We played the slots a little on the way out. They were all those new kinds of machines and the ones that were the good old kind had very high odds. So for us it wasn't that fun. We aren't big time gambles, so low payouts with good odds are our speed. We won't go back any time soon either, but I'm sure we will be back eventually. It is nicely done inside and they did take good advantage of their spectacular view. We couldn't help but feel a little bad for the people who lived in what had been a rural setting who now have a view of a 24-7 casino.

I wish Red Hawk good luck. The Shingle Springs Band deserves all the success in the world.
Knowing the past helps deciphering the future.

I thought they were exempt from taxes because of the tribal land thing?

They are not "taxed" per se. But any Tribe which has a casino in california has a "Compact" with the state which in lieu of "Taxes" they pay a per cent to the State.

But also they also pay a percent to community organizations, non-profits, or community/educational activities. Which Walmart, Jiffy Lube, or Holiday Inn is not required to pay. But we all do what we can in our own means.
