Reading such diverse reviews leads to confusion. How could a place be so great for so many but so terrible for a few? I'm very curious about the details surrounding the bad experiences - were wrong colors painted or was the paint job done poorly?

Really not that unusual when it comes to opinions and perspectives.
Google reviews has four 5 star reviews and three 1 star.
Take a look at Yelp on your favorite restaurants. You liked Girasole, correct? Among the rave reviews of how great it is are several saying that it was terrible, oily, slow service, etc.
Actually, forget Yelp, this is typical for online forums, like myfolsom!
And remember, in a typical election, 49% of the voters can end up disappointed. Same candidate, different opinions.

Interesting. Reason I asked is because I'm looking for a painter.
On the review sites, it blows my mind that the #2 highest rated restaurant in all of Folsom is ... In-N-Out Burger! That either says we have crappy choices, or a city full of fast food eaters.

Truth, you should also get a bid from Jim at Discount Exteriors. He does all of our painting and has for years. I have recommended him to two friends in the past year and they both loved him.

I still highly recommend Trico for interior or exterior painting. They did our exterior a couple years back and I know others that have had interiors and exteriors painted since then with no issues. Caligirlz, yours was probably an isolated incident.
It doesn't sound like it.
If anyone wants to know why, please PM me and I will tell you. I will not post the details here (as much as I would like to)
I recommend Matt Donato 916-837-7574 if you want the job done right for a fair price.
(Matt quoted me the same price as Trico, but I went with Trico due to the reviews on myfolsom. So take the recommendations with a grain of salt, and interview these people for yourself. I didn't know Matt previously, but I sure wish I used him. He is very detailed oriented and has high, high standards. He has done all of my work since)

Can I ask who you ended up going with for the job?
I've checked out several of the prior painters posted and I just cant decide. I like good customer service and quality of work and im having a tough time getting both right now (emails/phone calls not answered in a timely manner)
Thanks

How interesting. Someone deleted my review of Trico. I still remember the details for those who are interested, send me a message.

Do you mean this one?
"I hate to say this, but I had a terrible experience with them on the inside of my house just before I moved in. I won't go in to the details, but I will say, there was a major communication issue between Tim and his staff, and despite multiple calls to Tim, and promises to work it out, it never happened. Sounds like they have improved. However, I will never use or recommend this company."

How about these?
"Turns out the lack of crisp edges is due to walls that aren't straight, the original application of stucco & "settling", so it's really not a painting issue at all, but Tim was willing to do touch ups if I wanted. I choose not to.
However, now there are places on the doors & baseboards that are starting to bubble (& it's only been 2 weeks!). It is my understanding that this is because the surface was NOT cleaned or wiped down before painting. I'm not too excited about calling back the company who didn't do the basic prep work...but big lesson learned."
Or
"I used Trico for my interior painting based on recommendations here. However, I received a substandard job despite multiple returns. The color was wrong, the ceiling/wall lines were crooked, the paint was watered down. Plus, there was no prep work done (like sanding), only taping. I. think they used the wrong paint as well, as the surface of my room divider shelf & walls were tacky/wet for months. I'd lean against it, and find paint on my clothing. The corners of walls, window seals & baseboards started peeling within a few months.
I even got a 2nd opinion, and was told it barely met the minimum requirements, so. I didn't have any recourse to pursue further. After the first 3 returns, I just never wanted to see them again. I will paint again, eventually & fix all their mistakes.
Funny thing, I interviewed 4 different painters & had pretty much made up my mind to go with Trico because of all the glowing reviews here, even though those reviews were primarily for exterior jobs. I wish to heck I had gone with Matt Donato instead. I would go with 4th gen recommendation over Trico. I did talk to Jim also, on the phone, and although he sounded really experienced, I was put off by his lack of need to see the house. I guess based on his experience, there was no need. Being new to Folsom, I wanted to meet people in person."
That's all I got.
