"Folsom police and parents are aghast over the purported actions of a Folsom mother who allegedly transported her 13-year-old son to a fight with another student Monday afternoon across from Sutter Middle School."

I'm not sure if this extreme behavior fits into the whole "parents these days coddle their kids too much" discussion here, but when my son is 13, I'm *not* going to still be driving him to his fist fights. He'll have to walk to them himself like I did when I was a kid.

Well, it's pretty easy to understand why the kid is probably a bully. Parenting in the new Millenium! I don't understand why the victim was suspended other than it's probably more of this "Zero Tolerance" BS.

I'm guessing that both were suspended because they both went willingly to this fight.

Are parents getting stupider these days or is there simply more coverage?

Good question. My vote is for stupider! This woman got her 15 minutes of fame, I wonder how she likes it. That is not a pretty mug shot.

There are so many things wrong with what she did I think we would all vote for stupider.

I can understand being worked up when you think your child is being picked on, but to intentionally encourage a physical altercation is beyond comprehension. She is lucky the other boy was able to walk away or she could be looking at charges much worse than she is currently facing.

There were so many other avenues available to solve this problem. What happened to being an adult?

School policy is any kid in a fight can/will be suspended...same goes for those that are watching (at least that was the policy at the high school last year).

So that is the policy no matter where the fight is? So if kids get in a fight Saturday night downtown and the school finds out, they will be suspended? That doesn't seem to make any sense. If I understand correctly, this fight was not on school property. How does the school/district have any jurisdiction?

If I remember correctly, there is nothing in there about where the fight occurs.

But think of it this way...if your child had a classmate that assaulted another person over the weekend, would you want that other child to be around your kid knowing that he's already assaulted someone else?

Right way:

Kid:"Mom, I've got to fight some kid. Drive me to the gas station"
Mom:"A fight!? Are you nuts? What kind of parent would drive her child to fight another kid? That is so wrong on so many levels. We need to talk"

Wrong way:

Kid:"Mom, I've got to fight some kid. Drive me to the gas station"
Mom:"A fight?! Sh*t yeah! I go your back boyee! No punkass beyotch gonna step to my son. Let's get him. F-town fo life!"

I vote for more coverage. I think there have always been and will always be a batch of stupid parents. It's just a certain percentage of the population.

I'm not sure but I think kids can be suspended or disciplined for activities on the way to/from school as well as at school. I don't think the Saturday night downtown fight scenario would ever come to the attention of school officials. There's always an investigation before discplinary measures are taken, so someone must have determined that this was mutual combat or the other kid would not have been suspended. Without the mother in the picture, it would have been a simple middle school mutual combat incident.
