With regards to it being in Folsom. Do you support it? Ride it?
Like / dislike that it is in Folsom?

Seems the masses are somewhat split down the middle.
What work I have done I have done because it has been play. If it had been work I shouldn't have done it. Who was it who said, "Blessed is the man who has found his work"? Whoever it was he had the right idea in his mind. Mark you, he says his work--not somebody else's work. The work that is really a man's own work is play and not work at all. Cursed is the man who has found some other man's work and cannot lose it. When we talk about the great workers of the world we really mean the great players of the world. The fellows who groan and sweat under the weary load of toil that they bear never can hope to do anything great. How can they when their souls are in a ferment of revolt against the employment of their hands and brains? The product of slavery, intellectual or physical, can never be great.

cue: it brings low-lifes and crime to Folsom...

me: I love it being here and wish that trains left from downtown later, wish there was more than one track here too.

How or why do you believe it brings low-lifes and crime to Folsom?
I think I hear what you're saying, I just don't know that there is a straight line from one to the other.

I also agree on there being a need for later train departures from downtown as there are many times where I'd much rather ride the train back than drive.

I live in Natoma Station and work at Aerojet. It doesn't seem far enough to me. In the time it takes to walk to and wait at the station, and walk from the other station to my desk, I could ride my bicycle.

I think it would be wise to extend the hours to late night, at least during the weekends. Many people come to Folsom to go bar hopping but then have no ride home... I'd rather have them have a safe ride home, rather than watch them drive here anyway and risk it.

What once started as a controversial topic and the line "it brings low-lifes and crime to Folsom" has become more of a humorous quip on the forum. The theory is that the low-lifes ride the train into Folsom specifically to commit crime, citing a supposed increase in crime (especially the Natoma Station neighborhood) in the last few years. I talked with a Folsom PD officer and he says that the light rail has nothing to do with the increase of crime, and it is just coming with the increased growth and traffic in the area. Reason being, the perpetrator(s) arrived at the crime scene in: cars. Besides, wouldn't one draw much suspicion to themselves walking around Folsom carrying an unboxed TV.

But enough of that. Personally, I enjoy having light rail in town, and I have used it to go downtown several times. With gas at $3.50 /gal and another $5+ for parking, a $4.00 round-trip ticket is a good deal. On the negative side, I wish it went to the airport (or at least had an easily accessible bus connection) and would like some increased security on trains.

I love light rail, but haven't had a reason to ride it since the Folsom expansion line. I wish it wasn't such a long ride downtown. While it's probably great at rush hour, it's so much quicker to just drive during the off hours. I may take my daughter downtown on light rail, but it would be too long for my son.

When I did work downtown, I enjoyed reading a book without worrying about traffic. Even though it ended up taking about the same time as driving (factoring in waiting for the train and walking to work from the stop), the reduced stress and irritation more than made up for it.

When you have job assignments change midday or even several times a day it's kind of hard to ride light rail. Otherwise, I'd give it a chance.

On a side note, am I correct that underscoreJohnunderscore is also Pacomon since he tried to resurrect an old thread on the same topic? If, so consider the response above answer to your comment.

Are there ridership numbers to look at?? Personally, I would have no problem with it if it didn't cause such a fiasco with the traffic lights on Folsom Blvd. Just 02

Yes, I have something like 87 different ID's.

Actually, I came across that thread, and while old, I thought it was a good discussion about RT and Light Rail. Why the mighty enforcement hammer put the lock down on it I have no idea. So, I thought it was worth a discussion to get peoples input on it.

I have no issues with the train coming into town, in fact support it as I grew up riding subways and trains as part of daily transportation. I'd much rather jump on the train than get in my car and drive down town.

I've never ridden it but I like that its here. We had a similar train nearby when we lived in L.A. and I rode it to work for a while.

If I worked in Sacto I'd probably be riding it at least a few times a week.

City council is working on extending weekend hours for light rail. Demand/numbers supports that move, I think. Also, I've asked them to consider an in-town fare system like they have in downtown Sac. We've used light rail from factory outlets to go to TNM, etc., and it irks me to have to pay full fare for that.

Darthlefty, unless you have another ID we missed you on our list of 22 plus honorable mentions on the board who live in NS.

I've never riddden light rail so I don't have personal experince to share.

Way back when as the original planning was being discussed, I was one of those in the minority that was pushing for the tracks to turn R onto Iron PT and continue all the way to E Bidwell. There could have been a stop at Intel and another at the Mall.

I'm still convinced this would have been a far better route! The park & ride lot could have been in the Mall parking lot, which could have encouraged many more to stay off the freeway.

If we ever build S50, its my understanding there are no current plans to extend light rail there so having the P & R lot at the mall, would also serve to accomodate those riders as well, thus making light rail more efficient.
