After having read so many bad reviews about Sudwerks over the past few weeks I was very hesitant about trying the place.

But then I read John's review yesterday and figured I really need to check this place out.

Went there for lunch today with two other friends.

The place really looks nice, I don't know what the hoopla was about the paint complaints?? but it looked perfectly fine to me, I thought it was very nice inside and outside

We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the views.

The service was very prompt and we were served our drinks and placed our order in a very reasonable amount of time

They also had all the beer taps working very well - tried the Hefeweisen - very good stuff!

Since John mentioned the burger was the best he's had, I gave that a try and ordered their "gourmet" cheeseburger with chedder and fries.

John was right about the buns, there's something about them that was very very good, nice and fresh and they had this flavor that tasted great. The burger was good sized and it came with the usual toppings of tomato, red onion and lettuce.
It was a good burger, the only thing I didn't like about it was that it was well done and I was surprised they didn't ask how we wanted them cooked - I usually prefer my burgers to be cooked medium, not well.

The prices were good, 3 people - 2 burgers, 1 soup and salad and two beers, $39 bucks, not bad.

The ambience was great
The service was very good
and the food was good, not great but good - I really need to try some of their entree's to get a better take on this place

One thing I did see a lot... the older crowd really likes that place... it was filled up mostly with blue hairs but they all seemed to be enjoying themselve. I found that sorta odd because the place looks more like a brew pub then a denny's but hey age doesn't matter, we all like good food

All in all I'd say that place must have turned around since they opened and fixed a lot of their original problems.

I'll be going back to try more in the future.

I was so very much expecting big problems and expecting the worse but that didn't happen at all, that place was good.

whatever problems they had originally seem to be all worked out now.

I'm glad I read John's review and gave it a try, it was well worth it.

Went for dinner recently. The Marzen was great as expected. My cioppino wasn't the best ever but was decent. Service was good. No real complaints, and we'll go back. You can't beat the view of the multiple bridges at sundown.

The reason places like this get such a bad rap is because people go and try them out the first week they open expecting the world....

No, how about expecting decent service and not getting beer spilled on you (when the beer is working that is)? I'm glad you had a good time Dav but 40 bucks for a burger and beer and it was just ok? You can get that anywhere in town. The place is still a DUD even though Sandyman thinks the world of it.

It was 40 bucks for 3 meals, 2 beers and a soda

To tell the truth, I'm not really big on burgers when dining because I make the best burgers myself (thus the reason I don't usually get them when I go out) so I'm kind of a snob on how burgers taste compared to what I can make. (hey I don't just critique food, I know how to make it very well myself).

so far I do agree with you (shock-a-zulu) the food was ok, not great...but hey I've only tried the burger so far, I gotta try more to really get a good take on how well they can prepare food

uh was that me you're calling sandyman? how'd you come up with that? and for the record, I didn't think the world of it, but I also didn't think it was the terrible place you painted it to be.

IMO its worth going back to try out more.

I was "talking" to you in my reply to Sandyman, trust me, I know when I'm talking to you and what to call you;)

No Darth-Spicy was trying to be a commedian as well as a food critic. For the record I have yet to even try the Folsom location so please don't speak on my behalf. Maybe the place does suck, I don't know. All I'm saying is that I would give the restaurant (just like any other restaurant) some time to work out the kinks before slamming them on public record.

My husband and I took my in-laws there Memorial weekend for dinner. After reading all the crummy reviews I was nervous. We had excellent service, food and the price for all 4 of us, appetizer, 4 entrees, wines, dessert was $140. The entree selection was great, hard to choose! My in-laws are very picky about eating out and they loved it too.
Went there a week or so before with friends for drinks after work. The only thing bad I could say was that it was pretty warm outside, so we sat in the bar. They had all those bright hot lights on, which was really unnecessary. We asked the waiter if he could turn them down/off, which he promptly did, as well as turn a fan on for us.
This one seems alot different than the one in Davis, but I'll go back for sure!

So, it sounds like it's improving. I'll give them another couple months to work out the kinks and see if they maintain consistently good reviews before I set foot through the doors.

Then I will expect the world.

That's because many of the elderly patrons are regulars from Cliff House and may not have even realized Cliff House had closed when they decided to go out.

That's okay, many will probably just forget and keep going back.

The "wing man" and I went over there last night... looking for our new "ex-girl friends"... found a decent "target rich" enviroment...

Actually the "bistro" tables kind of make it neat to wander up to a sweetie pie and make your move... you know.. to ask her to "glide" with you on "da dance flo"...

Sudwerks is awful. We went there tonight and I cannot remember the last time I had such bad service and food. My husband had a burger which was very blah, AND SMALL, the toppings were sorry looking and the fries were gross. I had the salmon BLT and it was ok at best. And my sons chicken fingers were inedible.

But the worst part was the wait. We waited at every point of the evening. And our waiter was very rude. He did not listen, and he rudely corrected me on the pronounciation of the wine I ordered (which came as a half glass for 8.00) Our food took forever. He came over and said the reason it was taking so long was because he had sent back my sons chicken fingers because they had burned them. So our food was sitting under hot lights for an extra fifteen munites. Then when it finally came, he handed me a very HOT plate that almost burned me. Did not apologize and the chicken fingers were still burned! Then he never came back, we had to flag down another server to get our check. IT WAS AWFUL!!!
