Sorry, John and all of the other moderators......I searched and searched for a previous thread about this on both Folsom and EDH and couldn't come up with anything....feel free to merge. Thanks.

Just wanted to say that "Carnivore" (aka hubby) and I had lunch today up at Bistro 33 in EDH. Don't waste your time, gas and money. Totally overpriced, marginal food. We just had two of their 'small plates"....two mini Kobe burgers and a soup sampler and a glass of house chardonnay..........the bill came to $30 (excluding tip). I'm sorry.....I'm sticking around town (Folsom).....better deals to be found.

Sorry, I must disagree... I order the "Puget Sound" sandwich (toasted bread, artichoke & cheese spread) with a small salad - I love it! Yes, it's pricey, but I'm worth it and enjoy a special treat on occasion!

I hate to say it, but based on prices in general, that's not too bad.

If the bill came to $30, and I think we're at 9% tax, that means lunch for 2 with wine came to $27.50.

If you had that same meal at a Folsom restaurant of similar style, you'd be looking at about the same prices. Try having the same meal at Scott's, Malabar, Fat's, The Ravine, etc. These places aren't rip-offs, they are nice places, and nice places cost more.

La Bou and Panda Express are much cheaper, but then again, you expect them to be.

The only one in town who seems to be able to deliver that high caliber food and dining experience at a lower price is Bailie's. They've dropped their prices significantly. You should give them a try.

I wasn't impressed with Bistro 33, but largely because the employees seemed snooty. I felt like they thought we should be serving them.

Service and attitude are why I'll still go to the Ravine, Scott's, Bailie's, etc.

Well, Stevethedad.....I know you're always the REASONABLE one here on this forum, but I still needed to put in my $.02 in about my disappointment with this place today. Like I said in my post....I'm going to stick here in town.....I'll try Ravine next time perhaps. Just wanted to give my heads up on where NOt TO go in EDH.....(we VERY SELDOM venture up that way, anyway). WE LOVE FOLSOM!!!!!!! That's my story....and I'm stickin' with it!!

Sorry, dear, but I believe Carnivore and I are OLDER than YOU.....we're well into our 50's....the lunch was probably about, perhaps, $5 back in the good ol' days of "Rock Around the Clock" and the "Mel's Drive In"s" with car-hops??????? But, of course, I KNOW they didn't offer KOBE BURGERS back then!!!! (And no Chardonnay either)

my wife and I went to Bistro 33 once.... its got a nice atmosphere and decor, but it seemed to be mainly a pick up joint filled with posers in suits flashing money to impress the cougars and young ones lined up 2-3 deep at the bar.

after waiting forever to get a table, we tried an appetizer and two entree's - that were just ok - the dishes seemed to be more about flash and pizazz then substance and good taste, to us the dishes weren't worth the price they were charging...and I'm usually very open minded about places..

course now that was only one impression we got of the place- I probably should give it a 2nd chance, but I prefer to dine locally in Folsom then to drive out to EDH

I know EDH folks hate hearing it but I swear, that night at Bistro 33, there was a seriously snooty attitude in the air.... like it was just all about the Benjamin's, who's best dressed and who can score....

I remember having a beer with my dad at the Ponchartrain Golf Course Club House in New Orleans in about 1977. Beers were 50 cents. My dad remembered when beers were a nickel.

A few years later, I was in Max's Son in Daly City, and ordered a beer. The bartender said, "2.50", to which I replied, "I could buy a whol six pack for $2.50!"

He said, "Yeah, but you can't drink it in here."

Last week, I was at a happy hour in San Francisco. Pints were on sale for $5, regularly $7.50.

I'm waiting for the $10 beer.

We ate at Bistro 33 EDH after it first opened. It was so-so - pricey for what we had, and yes, it did seemed to be more of a place to be seen (anyone who's ANYONE goes there!). But now we have a $100 giftcard for the place and have tried over and over to make reservations to go - but they don't accept reservations for primetime (Saturday evenings between 6:00 and 8:00 pm). They suggest that you just show up and wait approximately 45 minutes or more. Yeah, right!

There are other locations, so we might take our giftcards and try one of them.

Well, in their defense....we ate there at 1:00 p.m. on a Tuesday for lunch.....not the same scenario as "prime time pick-up time" obviously....so, we didn't encounter that crowd. But, we still won't be going back. I'll keep my (not so) "curled up" nose here in Folsom! Hope all of you will do the same.

I've been to Bistro 33 a few times and I've been less than impressed each time, and with each visit worse than the prevous.

Is it bad? Not really but I'd wouldn't go there as a first choice even for half the price. There are just better places in the area for comparable or less cost. It's seems to be trendy and fashionable. The bar area seems nice. But the food just wouldn't be my first choice.

I'd go if other people wanted to go but I would propose going there.
