And for that matter would there be any businesses in general who can do that for that matter? (barter)?
Thanks!

He has a business that fixes pc problems without him having to come to your home or you having to take your pc to him. It's an amazing service, off-site tech support. They don't really sell hardware but he can recommend something for your needs.

Building a PC makes sense if you like generic software. However, if you want a full Microsoft office suite its cheaper to buy an entire PC with it pre-installed than to buy the software stand-alone. MS charges something like 20 times the price for office for non-OEM installs.

True, but you can buy OEM versions of MS Office from third party vendors fairly cheap. Better yet, just download Open Office for free and be done with it. I've been playing with it does 99% of what I'd need in an Office suite.

You're right about that - purchasing MS Office with a PC runs on average $128 bucks, buying it alone it costs about $298
Been looking into buying the misses a new PC - this is the one we really like...

I guess it depends on the type of user you are. I found that OpenOffice doesn't do a fraction of what I needed. My wife does a lot of volunteer work (in fact she spends more time volunteering than most people spend at a job). She finds MS Publisher to be an invaluable tool for putting together newsletters, flyers, etc. I'd say if you are a notive MS Office user you could probably find the same functionality in OpenOffice, but if you are a moderate to power user of MS Office you would probably be disappointed.

Exactly! that's the #1 reason I don't believe in software piracy -and to the pirate/thieves out there, you're bogging down the net with all your freakin bit torrent downloads, knock it off already - or quit complaining about company's like comcast throttling usage, its entirely because of these pirate people who are downloading terabytes of stolen software and pirated movies and music that the networks are clogged and why telecom companies are now considering even more throttling - knock it the eff off already and man up and buy the software and media you are using folks!
DO THE RIGHT THING! It's called ethics people, everyone needs to have some.
P.S. I'm not 100% innocent, I used to pirate a few wares here and there too - about 10 years ago when I didn't know any better about how it messes up software development, music production etc..
once again... DO THE RIGHT THING and pay for ALL your software, music and movies... you don't do your job for free so don't expect software developers, movie producers and music bands to do their work for free by having you stealing their hard work
this has been a public service announcement, I'll step off my soap box now...

hehehe d'oh sorry dude, you're right, as you can tell there's a few computer geeks here and we get into this stuff.
hey now if you get your hands on Adobe CS4, I'll glady help "evaluate" it...
one thing I wish is that software upgrades didn't cost so much.... each Adobe new release is usually $150 minimum
