Ewwww, our water smells bad today. Since it's the weekend I'm guessing we have to wait until Monday to talk to the city about it. Is anyone else experiencing stinky water or are we just the lucky ones? Is there a way to talk to Folsom utilities before Monday?

If there was a major water leak or something you could probably get somebody to respond. I haven't noticed anything with our water today. I would suggest not drinking it until you can get in touch with the city tomorrow. Maybe use bottled water for brushing teeth and such. This is from the city Web site.

Edit: Oops, tomorrow is Sunday, not Monday, isn't it? Maybe call the fire dept or PD non-emergency number and see if there is a weekend city utility crew that can respond if you think something is really wrong.

Thanks Ducky. I did call and leave messages at those numbers from the city's website. Maybe I will call the PD non-emergency in the morning and ask them what we can do.

What does it smell like, and is the smell in the hot only, cold only or both?

I was going to say that our water has had a stronger chlorine smell lately.

Either because we're sucking the dregs of the lake, or the recent rains have started washing more goodies into the water supply and they needed a little more oomph in the treatment process to compensate.

Anyone notice the increasing chlorine odor in the water? That smells bad too, why did the city increase the chlorine in our water so much lately? Are we getting recycled water since the lake is so dry now?

I hadn't noticed but my dad complained about it when he visited over Thanksgiving.

I dont drink the water here because the chlorine smell is so strong. I have a very sensitive sniffer, so I dont eat and drink a lot of things.

We have a RO filter system which gives us great drinking water all the time. I'd highly recommend it.

we also went with a house filter system, water tastes great now, took the chlorine smell out.

Plus we are getting water at the lowest level of the lake, sometimes during this time the water under rainbow bridge looks and smells bad, people have even complained thinking a sewer main broke in the lake above the bridge.

I'm typically a DIY type of guy, but with some plumbing jobs, I prefer to let the pros do it.
I've done some plumbing work, and I always hate it when I do it.

It might just be a super strong chlorine odor, but I'm not sure it really put me off last night just washing the dishes. I didn't notice it in the shower so much, but when I was washing the dishes and brushing teeth I did. It doesn't seem as strong this morning compared to yesterday.

A typical system runs around $200. You can buy them at Costco. Its really not that hard to install, just a couple of T fittings. All the hoses are flexible teflon, so nothing major. Just make sure you have an extra hole available in the sink to mount the spigot.

This is the one we had in our last house. We liked it because the tank was a little smaller, as were the filters. Takes up a lot less room under the sink. Gave us GREAT tasting water. I'd definitely buy another one.

We had the contractor install it when we redid the kitchen so I can't say how easy it is to install or what it would cost.

As the water level drops in the lake, there is less water to dilute the pollutants in the water. this puts more strain on the city's filtering system.
