Okay, so this may sound like a snooty rant: but is anyone else annoyed with Sacramento's local news stations? I feel like no matter what channel I turn to, I get silly anchors doing rediculous segments and have this unprofessional and almost high school-like banter with one another. I was raised in the Bay Area with KTVU and feel like they had a tight ship run over there. KCRA is the closest thing I can find to that.

I know I know. I'm probably over reacting and should get my news elsewhere. Anyone else share the feelings though?

Dennis Richmond was a pro!

I can't stand local news, except for Channel 10. Dale Schornack is my hero *swooon*

I rarely watch the local news, but when I do I just turn on which ever is on at the time - they sort of all seem the same to me. Christina Mendoza is one of the better anchors on the news and she's a local resident here in Folsom.

On the anchor personalities, my guess is they are working on their appeal to local Sacramento residents which consists of a lot more blue collar workers then the bay area has?

She just basks in the great Dale's shadow.

And she shops at Raleys sometimes.

I wanted to throw-up when I saw a segment on Good Day Sacramento when they were in Modesto....They had a segment about people from the 'Hood and some old lady was throwing gang symbols....All of this before 9am in the morning....Nothing like watching hoodrats from Modesto in the AM...
BTW, I don't think the demographics for Gday Sac. is blue collar; I think it's no collar; think "highly" unemployed. They are the only ones home all day to catch the 4 stinking hours it's on.

I hearya. And as bad as Sacramento TV news is, Sacramento *radio* news is even worse, especially when compared to Bay Area radio. I remember a couple years ago, coming back from a Monarch's game, I got stuck on 50 for like 90 minutes. Completely backed-up and not moving at all.

The local radio was completely useless. It was all syndicated shows about investing or informercials about vitamins or whatever. Even the the top-of-the-hour news was all national. It used to be you could at least rely on KFBK or 610 for *some* local coverage, but they've outsourced their news-gathering or something.

Luckilly I had KGO and, uh, what's 710? KCBS? With their traffic reports every ten minutes to tell me that there was a suicide jumper on an overpass. I had to get a San Francisco station to give me Sacramento traffic news! And I doubt they sent one of their traffic helicopters up here to find out - they probably got it off the CHP website or something, which a local station could have just as easilly have done if they'd cared.

Anyway, knowing *why* I was stuck in traffic was nice and all, but if we'd had a *real* local radio station giving local traffic updates I could have avoided the whole thing to begin with.

Grrrr. Rant over.

ps: I'll fight anyone who doesn't like Dennis Richmond.

Well think he was a great anchor but man is he arrogant! We catered for him on several occasions and he is not the nicest man in the world...but a great anchor....lets fight smile.gif

Uh... Actually I was born and grew up here (well, Carmichael) and *do* remember when local radio stations had regular Sacramento news and traffic.

I just don't understand why the news has gotten smaller and less useful as the population around me has gotten much, much bigger.

So what part of Sacramento are *you* from? smile.gif

I'm not from here, as you know. But I don't come on here and bash Sacto every chance I get. Not saying you do (just your post set me off there) but there a lot of transplants that sure (censored) a lot about how much they hate everything that isn't bay area.
