I'm on a rampage to clean up some of the negativity on this site. Undoubtably, I will anger some posters, even regulars. However, I hope it will beneficial in the long run.

In the past, if you haven't broken a forum rule I personally let it slide. Now, if you post something that's not beneficial to the site or the community, please expect it to be edited or deleted entirely. You can also expect a PM from me explaining why I did so.

If you have a problem/complaint with me, please take it up with John or STD.

If you have been lurking, afraid to post because of fear of the stupid backlash, please take this opportunity to make yourself heard.

Please note that I do not read every post and will not catch everything, but I hope to at least make a little impact before I get booted wink.gif

I notice MSgt is also on board with this too. He edited a post he felt was offensive (not mine) the other day.

One thing that can help is to PM the poster with details why vs. in the past MODs would edit or delete but many complained they werent certain why. Cant correct what is unknown.

I personally feel I've kept on top of personal attacks and reported posts. And please continue to report anything you think is out of line. The change I'm talking about is going after thread 'kerplunkers'. Negativity that isn't necessarily breaking rules, but does not contribute to a welcoming or conducive to community discussion.

I'm all for it as long as you apply it evenly across the board.

Our general rule of thumb is "add value or be gone". Every now and then we need to get back to basics. I support this.

I'm behind you 100%. I think the negativity has gotten out of hand.

Understanding that it is a public forum, and trying not to take it too seriously, we let people say what they want and express their opinions.

Too often, however, and it seems to be on the increase, some members feel the need to ridicule rather than discuss.

Name calling, people with an agenda, people who bring nothing to the table but criticism and negativity are bringing this forum down.

We don't want it to become a place where only nice things are said, but it is swinging to the other extreme where for many, only negative things are said.

I'll join in the deletion of negative remarks and threads, but I won't bother with an explanation unless asked. We're all old enough to know better.

I am sure it will anger some, but I hope it will be to the betterment of the forum.

OMG, thank you. Postings have been ugly the past few days. I read the forums daily, not much of a poster, but felt compelled to respond to this. All the negative remarks and battles are not what this forum should be about. Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion, let them state their opinion, you state yours and move on!!! Enough with all the personal attacks.

I just find this really funny, after just yesterday you posted a defense to my post regarding censorship. You claimed it wasn't as heavy-handed as I was implying it was.

This topic just kind of proves my point. It's a shame really.

I feel I have always been objective in my moderation. If I ever censored you, it would have been because you either broke a forum rule or were wrapped up in a thread that did and got caught in the crossfire.

The change I'm making is to start being subjective. I am now going to be more heavy-handed on things that I 'feel' aren't beneficial to the community. This is undoubtably my personal opinion, and will be seen as biased or not objective. Sorry, but I'm sick of all the negativity, and this is now my only option besides leave. If you have a problem with my moderation, please take it up with John or Stevethedad.

I actually don't care all that much. There are other forums that I can (and do) frequent that don't practice censorship at all (aside from deleting and banning trolls, and SPAM which I think most reasonable people can get behind). I like the people here and read here because even though I'm two minutes out of Folsom, now, I still feel like I'm a part of the Folsom community.

But please, don't make it seem like people who do have an problem with your moderation can take it up with the Powers That Be. They have already said they support this decision.

I would only choose to leave if the fact that I say that I find censorship distasteful and unnecessary would be edited out. If I can't state my opinion without fearing it will be deleted then this isn't the place I'd want to be anymore.

This forum has always been John's house and John's rules. I'm thankful for all the cool info I've picked up from posters. I've also had some posts deleted. A reason was always given, and I'm fine with it. It can't be fun being a moderator here. Thanks for all the good work, mylo, and others.

I don't know why things are so negative lately. Maybe it's the full moon.
