Story: Air Force Week 2009 Roars in to Sacramento!

Over 120 military and civilian aircraft thundering into town for the fourth annual California Capital Airshow. , Saturday September 12th, Sunday 13th.

Discover "Glacier Girl" and see an F-22 Raptor and if you are quick enough, a B-2 Stealth.

I will be there on Thursday for a sneak-preview. Check out the photos!

The article is enthusiastic but poorly organized...

The air show at Naval Air Station Fallon is this Friday 9/11 and features the Blue Angels

The Capitol Air Show is the 12th and 13th at Mather Airfield and features the Thunderbirds

The Reno Air Races is the 16th-20th at Stead Field north of Reno, with air show type stuff between the races on Sat-Sun. The fastest racing in the world, 500 mph on the deck! And the Blue Angels, again.

I do love this stuff but I'm not sure I'll go this year. If I see to much the novelty gets burned off. I have the same problem with races.

If you purchase advance tickets, you also receive a free pass for Light Rail and the Bus Shuttle. It's a great way to get to the air show, but it's a fairly miserable way to get home from the air show.

I say this because people trickle into the show through out the day, but when it ends, there is a mass pilgrimage to the shuttle/lightrail station. You may have to wait for a few trains until you actually get on one, there may be standing room only, and they may force you off a Sunrise because only every other train goes all the way to Folsom. There were many grumbly upset people.

We took light rail last year and it was a breeze both ways. We waited about 15 minutes for the shuttle to light rail and it was a piece of cake from there. It takes longer to get out of the parking lot than it did to do the shuttle/train.

Don't be nervous, only kind, nice people take light rail. Just ask the residents of the Natoma Station neighborhood or the store owners at the Outlets!

Yes, we left at the end. One year that we drove it took over an hour to get out of the parking lot. It was frustrating and wasted time and gas. Light rail is the way to go. Even if you have to wait a little bit for a train, it still beats that exit-the-parking-lot chaos.

I went 2 years ago and getting out of the parking lot was INSANE... swore I would never do it again. Thats why when I saw the LT thing I thought it was a great idea...

FWIW a few years ago we found our way through a neighborhood the was essentially at the end of the runway of Mather and it was awesome. We didn't see the fly-by grandstand stuff but as the Blue Angels got into position for their runs it was right over-head and awesome.

I don't know that I could find my way there again but there was no traffic, it was free, and the view was incredible.

Light rail back to Folsom was a pain last year, had the same exact experience. I was debating whether driving was still more of a pain.
