I hear it is because of a lack of trains running through the area! It's because you can't shoot them. I saw some very large cat prints while out hiking last weekend.

There is basically zero chance of being attacked by a mountain lion, so there is no need to worry or change your behavior.
While I agree the chances are so remote of being attacked it wouldn't keep me from the trail, it's that "basically" part that would make me change my behavior and be more aware of my surroundings when there are increased sightings.
I posted this because I think information is a good thing.
If you are walking the trail in that area with very small children, you won't want them lagging behind or runnning too far ahead, which is always a good idea, but sometimes we become complacent because we get comfortable and forget we share these areas with wildlife.

I'm glad you posted, Ducky. It is good to be aware that this is a real potential danger. My husband actually did change his behavior-- instead of running the trail at dusk the other evening, he decided to just run on surface streets. Of course, the chance of attack is remote, but he didn't want to tempt fate...
Thanks, bordercolliefan. Knowlege is power, or so I hear. I think most of the sightings have been on the other side of the trail towards Sailor Bar.

I saw one earlier this week on the path that goes from the bike trail up to the east end of the Natoma lake crossing bridge.A friend ran into a guy yesterday on the other side of lake Natomas near the big hill or volcano as we call it. He said the past 4 nights he's seen the same mtn lion there watching dear.
