So today I'm going through town on a bunch of errands. I want to go through the drive-thru at In n Out to get a drink. The employee in the parking lot suggests i go inside if im just going to get a drink. I begin to back up and see its labelled handicapped. I turn the car around and go closer to the building and find a regular parking spot. I walk inside. The employee who had suggested I walk inside was already at the register with the soda ready and smiling (holy mackerel I gave him kudos for that, it was awesome service).

However, that's not what this thread is about. While walking past the closest row of vehicles to the building I saw a Garda armored car parked in front of the building. It was parked and blocking 3 handicapped parking spots. Two had vehicles in them. One driver was actively trying to back his car out of the spot and had to maneuver the car nearly sideways to get it out of the parking spot which held a lot of traffic up in the lot. It was weird because the traffic wasn't there when i got out of my car. I don't know maybe just because it was lunch hour. So anyway, as I'm walking in I see the armed guard (the driver) standing near the soda fountain with a drink in hand and waiting on his order. I stopped and looked behind me. I looked straight at the guy and said, your guard vehicle is blocking a handicapped person from leaving his parking spot.

He tossed his chin up at me in acknowledgement  said nothing and slurped his soda out of his straw. Everyone in the restaurant around me stared at him. One couple started speaking angrily and pointed at the car trying to get out of the parking spot. I shook my head, thanked the guy at the register as I passed the change over to them, and walked out. I was so mad I wrote down his plates and vehicle number before leaving the lot.

Very poor form. If he's going to abandon his vehicle he should have just parked in a parking spot at the end of the lot so that he wouldn't have an issue leaving, or he should have chosen a different place to eat. I really think he left me with the idea that armed guards working for Garda don't respect old people. I find it insulting and arrogant. Obnoxious and self-entitled.

The Armored Security Guards have to adhere to a strict security procedure.      These guys get taken out with AK-47's and AR-15's from large groups of people.      They need to be close to the building during the money transfer.     Security is paramount and I agree with this procedure even if it causes any small inconvieniences.

Yeah, he was ordering a burger and fries, not making a money transfer.

Let the guards grab their lunch.     I am not convinced that was the only reason the guards were there but it still should not matter.    They are still vulnerable to heist and need to park the armored vehicle closest to the door.    There is a  second guard which is required to stay at the wheel at all times.

Let it go.

I can appreciate the security procedures that the armed guards must exercise, especially if loaded (do their security procedures get relaxed if they've already unloaded the items that were to be transported?). They are a high value target.

But it's not clear that other options were not available and still maintain security. For example, what exposure would have been created if the truck was moved 5-ish yards (aka - 5-7 additional steps) to the curbside at the drive-through exit? These armed transport businesses should not get carte blanche to inconvenience the public at their discretion unless there are extraordinary circumstances.

That In-n-out parking lot is a disaster to start with. It's small and cramped, even for a Smart car. I can't imagine trying to maneuver an armored car thru there.

If they are supposed to have a second person in the car at all times why wouldn't that person have moved the vehicle?

he blocked in a handicapped driver. that is totally unnecessary & rude. If it were me, and I was on my lunch break & he was blocking my exit, he'd be moving his damn vehicle.

So the guy's standing there, drink in hand, straw in his mouth, and you're still thinking the guy is making a money pickup?  What were they going to heist?  His double double animal style?  Gimme a break.

I guess on this one I am in the dissent.   It is highly unlikely the armored truck is empty of money.

Assuming you are correct I still would "cut them some slack" and let them grab their lunch.
