The mosque building also will house a primary school and library, providing a place for the Islamic Society of Folsom's 300 families mostly drawn by the area's high-tech jobs.
Welcome to Folsom and congratulations for building your mosque.

Another great day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

The timing on this is insensitive to the community. I'm sure it will be built and will probably be welcomed by many of the politically correct citizens of Folsom. However, given the stressful time we are living in, especially for many of us with family members serving overseas, I would prefer that the Islamic community hold-off on their plans until we see a light at the end of the tunnel in the middle east. I would feel much more comfortable about welcoming this building/school/library if I heard louder Islamic voices condemning ongoing violence being perpetrated erroneously in the name of Islam. I understand that there is a difference between a peaceful faith community that simply wants to worship in their own way in this country, and the evil forces that have taken certain tenets of the Islamic faith to the extreme. However, for some reason that I can't really explain, this project, at this time, feels like a painful jolt.
According to the Bee article, this ambitious project is completely funded by private (not foreign) money. Sounds like an awful lot of money to have been raised by 300 families, plus some private investors. I honestly do have some fear that foreign money may be involved - I hope that the sponsors of this project will help to reassure this community that this is not the case.
In other times, I would welcome this new addition to our community. However, right now, it will be painful to see it. For those who read this and want to beat me up for my lack of tolerance, understanding, etc., please understand this is an unusual stance for me - I just believe the Islamic community needs to take a look around and try to be sensitive. For many of us, the pain of losing friends and family on 9/11 is still with us. Again, I understand that the people building this mosque claim no relationship to 9/11...
That being said, along with others in Folsom, I will pray that your mosque brings peace to your community, and results in a greater level of respect and understanding between all faiths that thrive here.

Born and raised in NYC myself, so you haven't cornered the market on living in a melting pot environment. I have gladly worked for many bosses of different faiths, lived and worked overseas, and have cherished every opportunity to live in peace with everyone I come across. Your condescending attitude is not new, and I was expecting it. You have the right to celebrate the new mosque - enjoy it.

Didn't Bush say the war on terror may take decades?

I never hear Muslims in one loud voice condeming the actions of their Muslim Extremist crazies....
However... the article did say that there will be no foreign money invested in this Mosque... FYI... most of the Mosques in this country are funded by Saudi money.
The Saudi's promote the most virulent form of Islam (Whabbism) and make no mistake, this form is not a "tolerant" form of Islam.
Johnny "Jihad" Walker got his indoctrination from a Mosque in Marin County and later was captured fighting Americans in Afghanistan..
I am concerned that the article mentioned they were going to have a "school" on this site... I hope it is not one of those "madrassas" which preach hatred for Americans and think its ok to kill us all...
I for one am worried about this Mosque and the "politically" correctness existing today that says I am a racist for my views on this when we are in a war for the very existance of our country.
I don't trust Muslims period.... because they don't stand up for America and I dont' see many of these people serving in our Armed Services....
So if you folks want to call me a racist or zenophobe.... I'll wear that badge with honor... it's ok to be vigilent because so many of these foreigners that come here do not want to "assimilate"... they want to change us....
I simply reject that notion...

Did ANY church in our area get built without the help of a central organization, or Rome, or whatever??
Whatever happened to the lesson of the Good Samaritan?
or "As you treat the least of these my brothers, you have treated me."
We cannot even get up to "Live and let live" let alone brotherhood!
Oh, yes, the times they are a-changin'!

This is an opportunity for the Islamic community to educate all of us, and share information that will lead to greater understanding. The more information that is shared, the better-off we will all be.
