NO, Comcast has been great...

My neighbor and I have had a ton of problems in the last two months for internet connections. Comcast just came out and ran new cable as at first the couldn't find the old one and when they did it was in bad shape.

Sorry Folks, but Comcast absolutely sucks!

I switched to SBC DSL and Dish because Comcast was so flaky.

I wish I could, but they don't currently offer DSL on my street in Briggs Ranch yet.

I also started having Comcast problems about a month ago. It always seemed to go down (the "Cable" light would blink on the modem) around 3 p.m. and come back up around 8 p.m. Comcast dispatched a couple of technicians who removed a splitter and added a new grounding cable between the MPOE and service panel. Since then, it's been flawless. Apparently, the afternoon heat coupled with the excessive splitters and insufficient ground was creating a large db loss, causing the modem to bounce up and down.

I ran into that in Briggs. When I spoke w/ SBC about it, they said the earliest you MIGHT see it out there would be 2008. I don't understand why they couldn't put some repeaters out there that would bring you w/in the distance limitations.

I can't wait until WiFi completely takes over. Then again, it may fry all of our brains.

I will not move to Natomas for fiber. 10Mbps is sooooo overrated.

Two recent problems with Comcast:

July 30

*my neighbor comes over and says Comcast is coming to repair his cable. The box is on my property.

*my wife gets a call from my daughter, that the cable guy was outside, and now we have no internet or tv

*when she calls Comcast, the smartass on the other end says, "you don't know that he did it. maybe it's a coincidence. We'll get someone out tomorrow.

*I call, demanding that they tell the repair guy to turn his truck around and fix my cable. They can't do that, they say. He has other appointments. They'll come out tomorrow for sure.

*I speak to a supervisor who says he can get someone out after 5 if I call back then. I tell him I'm going out to a big dinner with visiting relatives, so he says he'll set it up for me.

*He calls at 5, and says someone is coming out

*I get home at 10 and find a voicemail from Comcast saying that they came out, but I wasn't home, so they didn't do the work

*I call and repeat my story. "Someone over 18, who speaks English, has to be there before we can do work", she confidently says. They'll get someone out tomorrow for sure.

*I speak to a supervisor. He says it's too late now, but will get someone out tomorrow. Call back in the morning and they'll tell you when.

*I call in the morning, and they tell me 'before 7pm'. Try as I might, I can't get more than that out of them.

*My wife tells me to take out the garbage, and I go outside to find a cable guy just closing up the box. "All fixed!", he says. "Someone disconnected your line." Apparently, he was unaware of the 'someone over 18 who speaks English has to be home before we can do work' rule.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

August 25

*Cable guys out front. They leave, and cable is out.

*Wife calls, and they tell her they'll be out tomorrow

*I call, and they tell my between 1pm and 4pm today

*I go home at one, and cable is all better. Wife tells me the guys came back and worked some more, fixing it before they left.

*I call Comcast to cancel the appointment. The guy thanks me, and says he's glad it all worked out.

*3pm, Comcast at the door. "I come to fix your cable", he says. I explain. He leaves. Before he goes, he says, "Didn't you have trouble a few weeks ago? I was the one who fixed it!"

*430ish. Comcast calling to confirm our appointment for the following day.

We have had comcast for a month and half of our channels won't work so we called and made an appointment. Before the appointment they called and said are you sure you need them to come out, I said no because the channels had actually started working just the day before this call. Then the day after the appointment was supposed to happen the channels went out again. I called last night to tell them all this and made another appointment, guess what our channels work again. They must be able to control it from their computers because if they call and ask if we need them to still come out I am going to go back to a dish, we never had this much trouble.

Comcast can reset your cable box from their office area somewhere. They can access your box. I have had them reset my cable box before when it did not work.
