The first blackout caught me and my two boys (husband was out of town) upstairs. We made a human chain and slowly made our way downstairs. My youngest screamed his heart out while I searched for matches and candles. I found some flashlights only to realize we didn't have any batteries! So we decided to make an adverture out of it. Hopped in the car (after I opened the automatic garage door by hand!), and drove around looking for an open grocery store. We loaded up on batteries, bought a couple battery operated nightlights for the kids bedroom and a bottle of wine for me! Needless to say, the lights were on when we got home but at least now I am prepared for next time!!!!

I like the candlelight dinner story. Luckily we had already eaten dinner. Does anyone else have a good blackout story to tell?

The second one was also because of an accident but I did not get the full details on it. Believe there were 3/4 vehicles involved in it.
I have a police scanner and when I hear sirens and the power goes off I turn it on and sometimes I get the information and sometimes I don't. The one I have is battery powered.

We experienced both blackouts. For the first one, luckily we had finished dinner. (Even though we have gas stove tops, they don't work since they require electricity to start. It makes us think how dependent we are on electricity.) As for the one on Monday, it happened right after I put a batch of cookies in the oven for a dinner party. And since the timer was used, I had no clue when the cookies would be ready. But, the cookies were OK since everyone loves chocolate.
FYI - during the blackouts, we checked on some seniors in our neighborhood to make sure they were OK. Both live on the same street but only one had problems with the two blackouts. The other neighbor didn't have any impact from the past two blackouts. Different grids even though on the same street???
Blackouts are annoying, especially when we have to reset all the clocks and answering machine again. However, we now have flashlights, batteries, candles, and matches throughout the house. We're ready.

It seems like I am resetting the clocks all the time. And... it can't be for accidents everytime. It seems to be happening way too often. I would say at least once a week for the past month. Rather annoying.
