2. Pass law imposing fines on anyone whose trash cans are visible from the street
3. Profit!

"We are sensitive to this situation and I have recomended we redraft the solid waste code to include such an ordinance. I have seen the City of Modesto's ordinance and have distributed it to our project manager who is currently working on the redraft."
Then in Septebmer he said that they were going to the council with a draft ordinance. I've been checking the agendas and no sign of it yet. I think it would be a good idea to give him a call or drop him a line

1. Pass law requiring all residents to have 3 huge cans at their home
2. Pass law imposing fines on anyone whose trash cans are visible from the street
3. Profit!
I agree--- !!!!
Although we have ours behind a screen and others in the back yard. I walk daily and see many residents that have theirs in view. I dont see this as an issue. These extra cans were FORCED on us; so why should we also be forced to use up valuable back yard space to store them.
Of all the people that I see that have them in view- 100% of them have then neatly lined up in one location or another near their fence or garage..
If the city wants to use 3 cans - then I see no issue with the residents having the CITY's property visible as long as it is Neat and Tidy...
The only other option would be for the CITY to eliminate the City's property from the residences... ( go back to a single can)

I agree. Tan, brown, and something in between would have been better. And no obnoxious "YARD WASTE" sticker!

We keep our in front because right now we don't have a choice until we pour a concert slab around to the back of our yard. People grow- up some of us don't have a choice in the matter.
If your only reason for pouring a new pad is the cans- suggest you ask the CITY for a GRANT to do it- as it is their issue- not yours.

How about the cans not be bright neon blue, bright gray and black? Howabout they make them a nice, earthy tone so if people leave them out they won't look so bad.
I like that idea! If I may extend that logic just a bit...
It seems to me that most of the households in question are storing their garbage cans on or near their driveway...what normally goes on driveways? That's right, cars! What if the city simply delivered a run-down, Geo Metro to each household, and the resident could simply open up the sunroof and dump their trash in!
Talk about recycling! This would keep the old vehicles out of the junkyard and the unsightly cans off of the driveways.

Actually, Folsomites voted for the colors. A survey was distributed to residents back in the early stages of the program (early '04-ish?). Granted, there were only a select few colors to choose from but we did get to choose. I don't remember what all the choices were.
Anyone have access to the archive of old Folsom Newsletters? I am curious if blue was the only thing that looked good or did we actually have "earthy" colors to choose from and purposefully picked the bright colors. The archive on the website only goes back to Sep '04. I can only find the writeup mentioning the results of the survey on page 4 of Oct '04:

BTW, the "obnoxious" YARD WASTE sticker saved the city $450k by reusing the old cans. Hopefullly as the old cans are replaced, they are not replaced with more black cans with stickers. Maybe a nice neon green to go with the overall motif. I think the Geo Metro came in a lime green one year...

Wouldn't some lattice be cheaper and easier?
