Tack strips.

And a new dam.

And focus from city council on mitigating the issue (see also, undergrounding Riley!)

the only real solution is to open the dam road up again at least during business hours or commute hours.

The last vision I saw for Sutter Street had Riley going under Sutter Street.

It's still an idea, I think they're going to wait until the new bridge is built and "see how it goes" before seriously considering the *huge* expense and impact of shutting down and undergrounding Riley

Stop and consider this proposal for a minute. This would involve huge expensesand commitments of time. While thiswas ongoing they would have to close down Riley/Sutter and probably the blocks around that corner. How bad would the congestion be during that time and would it be worth it? No!
Also this reminds me of when San Jose closed parts of First street to build their light rail system. Most businesses in the area had to close down because it was too difficult for customers to reach them. Ultimately the city used public funds to pay back all those businesses for their losses. Could Folsom afford to pay all the Sutter street businesses for comparable losses? Not without taking a lot more money from our pockets.

We could pay for it w/ all the gold we'll unearth.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

Good point, it's probably one of the less-mined streets in old town smile.gif

I know you're being facetious but unfortunately that's the level of thinking too often on this board.

Doesn't bother me at all, gotta get from one place to the other somehow and thats part of the deal you got when you signed up to live off a busy street near Folsom's most popular area.

It drives me nuts, as well. It isn't so much that people are using the streets that bothers me, but the fact that so many apparently have no regard for the neighborhoods through which they are cutting and speeding. 45+ mph on these very narrow residential streets is unacceptable. Drivers tossing their hamburger wrappers and drink cups out of their windows as they pass through are maddening. Idiots booming their stereos early in the morning and late at night as they drive through are obnoxious. People simply blasting through stop signs without slowing down are downright dangerous. Jerks blasting away from every stop sign at full throttle with their loud exhaust blaring are just plain rude. Commercial trucks using Sibley as a through route/shortcut are breaking the law, I believe, although it doesn't seem to be enforced.

Personally, I make every effort to avoid the use of residential streets to get from one area to another if main streets are available for the same purpose. I fully recognize that one of the downsides to living in such a convenient and central part of town is that lots of other folks come and go from the area or pass through it on their way to someplace else. I just wish that more of these people would exercise a bit of consideration for the area's residents as they are passing through.

My name is mylo, and I endorse the post above. Very true, on all counts.

I would also add the occasional Harley blasting through stop signs at full throttle. Yes, they can still hear you down at the Folsom Hotel, but all the residents between here and there are getting a double-dose.

The rude drivers and loud Harleys are not the sole propertyof the Historic District alone. I am "tired of" it everywhere.
