that is a great song, JC was a very good story teller.....that one was recorded in 1969 at San Quentin Prison

here's a really cool video/pictorial clip from when he played at Folsom Prison

I listen to plenty of tunes Dav, JC doesn't isn't in my collection.

Truth be told, I'd be totally fine with them calling it Darth Vader Bridge too. Darth Vader, Johnny Cash - don't matter to me as long as they paint it black.

The city council named the bridge, "Folsom Lake Crossing" at tonights city council meeting.

John, I saw you were there...

They wanted Folsom in the name because Folsom put so much into this bridge. Surrounding communities did not and are not helping to fund it...

What a crock. Starsky and Miklos went as far as to want to name it the "City of Folsom" bridge, in an effort to pat themselves on the back for all the hard work they put in to getting this thing approved (even though it wasn't even in the contest or a finalist). Miklos even lashed out at the crowd for the gall of naming the bridge after a man who's never been recognized.

Way to congratulate yourselves for doing your job , boys.

Thanks to Ms Howell and Mr Morin for their support - it just irritates me that everyone in the crowd that spoke was in favor of Johnny Cash, yet they decided that they thought it was in the city's best interest to pat themselves (the city council) on the back. I never have been more ashamed to see our city council in action. Honestly, I was pissed.

The one good thing that came out of it is that they seemed to be receptive to honoring Cash with a statue somewhere in town (just not near the bridge). Perhaps they can do it somewhere that has a view of the prison. There's got to be an area somewhere around there that would have a suitable view that people can safely pull offf.

We didn't need another "Crossing". We already have Lake Natoma Crossing -- you know the one we still call the "new bridge"? I guess we'll probably still call this one "the dam road". Spell it anyway you want. "Johnny Cash Expressway" would have at least been easy to remember.

I agree that a Crossing should at least cross something.

Completely agree. I don't know what the councils deal is with the word "crossing"....i mean its just bland and boring. I mean it looks like these guys didn't even look at the list of names and just slapped "crossing" onto the end of the thing it DOESNT cross. Byway, Expressway, or just Bridge would have worked way better. I guess they figured it worked so well the first time (yeah right) they should use it again. We couldn't even refer to it just as "The Crossing" now if we wanted to, cause theres two of them. I guess its some sick joke to out-of-towners...huh we just crossed a lake?

And whats the deal with no aerial fireworks on the 4th? Two major disappointments tonight for me...

Maybe they don't want to risk burning down the new "crossing."

unbelievable wacko.gif

that decision was incredibly lame - could they have picked anything more boring or nonsensical? How about Folsom River Crossing instead - last I checked, there's no lake underneath that bridge huh.gif

cripes are those 2 council members THAT out of touch with the people of Folsom? ah well, just keep that in mind when it comes to re-election time.

It was a 4-1 vote. Kerri is the only one that voted against this.
