The Elk Grove mall has been put on hold indefinitely.
I wonder if the Palladio is next?

From what I understand the developer of the Folsom mall is Elliott Homes. They had something on the news within the month that said the work was going to continue, but not as rapidly.

The freeway access to this mall was never planned right. Since INnOut opened, it is an absolute mess at the E. Bidwell and Hwy 50 interchange area. That whole thing is a mish mash of stop lights and poor access that shows what poor planning and overdevelopment of a small area can do to screw things up.
Imagine a full blown mall's traffic adding to that mess? Folsom's roads are a disaster already.

When (and if) the economy rebounds, Palladio will probably happen and it will be good for Folsom. It will stop some of the retail leakage that goes to Roseville and Sacramento. Folsom could use the sales tax income that is now going out of the city.
Unfortunately the lack of information (real information) just fuels the rumor mill. Elliott would be much better served and so would the community if they opened up and told people what was happening and what the plans were.
On a different note, Lifestyle Centers are now the hot prospect in Shopping Centers. No one is building enclosed malls anymore.

I agree with this, I end up going to Sacramento or Roseville for a lot of stuff. We could really use a nice dept store and a few major restaurant chains IMO.

Those are fighting words for some of the foodies on this site who prefer indepenent\local eateries. What chain restaurants is Folsom missing?

I wouldnt mind a pf changs or the return of pei wei. I'm okay with folsoms selection of asian restaurants, but I still go to roseville to eat at changs now and then.

I wouldnt mind a sears. I end up at sunrise or roseville to go to one of those.

I'd really like a seafood restaurant besides Scotts. I liked the little one over by Kohls, since it was a little less formal. They were just too close to scotts, had too many of the same dishes and were at the same price points to make it.

I'd like a good fish and chips place. I tried Big dip a couple of times, the old yagers and that english pub on bidwell. Mushy, oily, overbreaded fish and undercooked french fries every time.

Unfortunately, 90% of what they're planning on putting into palladio is of absolutely no use to me whatsoever, and an outdoor mall in an area where its 100 degrees out for 3 months and 50 with pouring ran another 4 months doesnt seem like that good of an idea.

Maybe that's the idea - it's too hot outside in the summer so you spend more time in the cool shops or out the rain in the winter.

I've been to Kierland Commons in Scottsdale during the summer months and there didn't appear to be a shortage of customers. Prior to moving down here we lived in Redmond, Washington. They built an outdoor mall there right too and the rain sure didn't stop folks from going there.

I've only lived here 6 years but 100 degrees for 3 months and pouring rain for another 4??

It isn't 100 degrees here for 3 months straight anyway. Almost every day it's over 100 degrees it makes the news as being unusual.

Is there really much of a difference between 94 and 100?

On a hot day when I want to shop, mosey around a while and have a lousy overpriced lunch, I'd much rather drive a little ways and go to the galleria.

Heres a chart of local weather from last year. I see a few weeks in May, and many, many days in June-September that hit 100 or better.

This is from a local weatherstation. Not from the local news channel that takes the recording temperatures at off peak times.

For high temps, I count 24 days of 100+, another 31 days of 95+, and another 37 days of 90+ weather. And 2008 was a mild summer.

Dairy Queen or Foster's Freeze. I'll be happy with either one.

I'll shop at the Palladio if there are not smokers everywhere. I can't stand the outdoor malls where the workers smoke at the front doors of all the shops. That is why I don't go to the outlets here in Folsom. If they ban smoking on the Palladio grounds maybe I'll go there. Chris

Diary Queen isn't expensive enough for the people planning communities around here. You'll get Cold Stone and you'll like it!

Do you people have any idea how good you have it? I'm from Phoenix and have a bud from Chicago, at dinner tonight we were comparing weather horror stories. Sacramento is paradise. It only rains just enough, the weather is not too hot in the summer and not too cold in the winter. The only complaint I have is the smoke.
