Apparently, it is far more than a Frederick's with some toys. An X-rated shop might even be showing movies in the back.

The bars might be the only thing open in the evening on Sutter St. (although actually, the restaurants all are), but if they have fun stuff for the pub drunks to do after hours, I suppose the smut store will also stay open evenings. That'll give downtown a real "nice" air in the evenings. The Sutter Street Merchants might be concerned about scaring the families away. First, the bridge closes, then the council closes off all of the access to downtown, and now they're going to add smut. Snooks, Hacienda, the Museum, the Sutter Street Grill, My Brother Vinny's all will have to think about getting by with a few adult customers.

What if they put the whole store on a rotating platform and in the daytime it was a nice coffee shop and after 10pm it's an 'adult' shop. Will everyone feel better then?

I did find in the city code that Adult type stores are to be closed between 11 PM and 8 AM and anyone under 18 is not allowed.
A VETERAN Whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount "up to and including their life". That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -Author unknown-

I'm still concerned that this guy Sam Dafour supposedly has been around Sacramento all his life (according to the Bee) but he owns no property in the tri-county area (according to public records searches of Placer, El Do and Sac county websites) and googling his name comes up with NOTHING.

Someone posted here that he and his wife are Intel employees. Anyone know anything about these people at all, other than what's in the Bee article?

Really? That's when it should be open....

Terry, misspelled name perhaps? Or it's possible that they put their assets under a company name.

Timely discussion....

Union Leaders Spent Dues on Sex Toys, Booze
Thu Oct 14,10:17 AM ET Oddly Enough - Reuters

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - Union leaders in the Swedish industrial town of Trollhattan, which is threatened by huge job losses, quit after allegations they used membership dues to buy liquor, porn and sex toys, the union said Thursday.

An internal audit by Sweden's second-largest union, Metall, unearthed expense abuses by branch 112 in Trollhattan, where about 6,000 workers at a Saab car factory fear they might be hit by European job cutbacks by Saab owner General Motors.

A former cashier at the branch told public radio Ekot of drinking bouts and sex shop sprees during official visits to Denmark and Belgium, using cash from union subscriptions.

"The branch did not pay for sex services -- that was up to individuals -- but the costs surrounding those visits were paid for by the branch," said Tommy Larsson. "I can confirm they bought dildos with union money and shared them out."

Metall spokesman Anders Ferbe said nine union bosses were suspected of not following financial rules.

Charges they spent union money in bars and sex clubs would be investigated, he said.

Metall has 400,000 members in a country with one of Europe's highest rates of union membership -- about 2 million people from a total population of 9 million.

I could have sworn that a couple of years ago, a concerned citizen found a loophole in the city charter; a loophole which had no implications toward an adult store. Hence, anyone could roll up to Folsom and open a sex shop. Because of this, didn't the city council close that loophole by making it illegal to open such a store?

I could have sworn this happened about 2 years ago. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Where did this information come from? I called and emailed the city for a better explanation of the types of items this store will sell. I hope I get a response and I will let everyone know when I do.

If the descriptions here are correct, I am definitely against this.

A store showing x-rated movies in the back? That could attract all kinds of perverts (even sexual predators) who are too cheap to buy their own porn. I don't think this is the kind of "draw" we need for Sutter St.

And I certainly don't want any possibility that my little girls could be exposed to pornography, sex toys, or even overly sexualized lingerie. I believe these types of things contribute to the objectification of women and cheapen sexuality, which should be private and should exist in a context of mutual love and respect.

With two young girls, I spend a lot of time thinking about how to shield them from our society's "all sex, all the time" message, which I believe can be damaging and distracting to girls. I am careful what t.v. shows they watch. I won't let them wear midriff-baring "Britney Spears" type-clothing. We try to watch shows and read books where women are the adventure heroes -- not the sexual objects. And now I have to walk them past a sex shop on Sutter Street?????

So far the x-rated sex shop idea is only a rumor. People are just posting a worse case scenario and passing it as the truth. Unless someone has a credible link to the contrary it's still just a Lingerie shop and nothing more.

I was just wondering the same thing.

The way you get something or not is by buying the products or not.

I am way in the back of this thread, but, really. If you or your town don't want some sort of product than don't buy it.

Remember - supply and demand - anyone??? Capitalism, anyone???

It almost sounds like a form of censorship, or a way of stopping free enterprise, or some here are trying to stop capitlism. Sad.
It sounds like this store (if I understand correctly) isn't even open yet and has been condemned?!?!?

Wow, scary, this sounds like there are many socialist here in the area I live, if I am reading this last page of the thread correctly...

Scary... maybe it's just the holiday.
