I've been to a couple of Panera's and I'll have to agree, I wasn't overly impressed either.I don't get the rave reviews on Panera. Once I had an Asian chicken salad that had barely any chicken in it; it was expensive for basically a big bowl of lettuce. Another time I tried the French onion soup, which was very salty and tasted like bouillon.

I don't think the Asian chicken salad is as tasty as some of the other salads. I always liked the Fuji apple salad or the Steak & blue cheese. They were doing panni's long before everyone else, and those are really good. They also have a really good chocolate brownie. YummI don't get the rave reviews on Panera. I can't help but feel sooo deflated about the Palladio. I've had such high expectations of this place in the 12 years we've been waiting for it to be built. Then seeing the success of the Galleria and the Fountains and the exciting businesses they were able to draw, I thought for sure Palladio would be able to if not to blow it away, at least compete with them. Instead Palladio is not even a second rate version but more like a third rate version of the Galleria and the Fountains. Sad, looks like my tax dollars will be continuing to support Roseville and not the town I live in. Really poor planning and execution on Palladio's part. What joke... Sports Authority and Chicago Fire... please they are already IN Folsom, relocating them is hardly anything to get excited about. I was really hoping for a Williams Sonoma, Sur la Table, Restoration Hardware, Macy's or Nordy's or SOME higher end retail, Sephora, ......So disappointed.
If it helps, Sephora has signed a letter of intent for Palladio.
Yawn, so far nothing extremely exciting coming as far as I am concerned. It seems that Folsom along with El Dorado Hills could definitely sustain a few higher end stores...Nordstrom, Dillards, Bloomies, J. Crew, Sephora, Victoria's Secret, Restoration Hardware or Crate and Barrel,Scandanavian Designs,to name a few. Whole Foods is a good choice and really won't take anything away from Trader Joe's, they will both be able to survive in their own niche. Restaurant wise...how about a good seafood restaurant, like The Fish House, Bubba Gumps, Banderra, maybe a Brazilian place? Chaamps is an overated sports bar type place with just average food...had one in the last city I lived in and it closed!
Sephora has signed a letter of intent and Victoria's Secret is in the final stages of signing a lease.
Although Panera isn't that great, I still wish for it. Roseville has 2...Folsom should at least get 1.

I've been to the regional Paneras a lot lately, having bought a "bagels for a year" ticket at a charity auction. I like the sandwiches. It's nothing amazing compared to what you might get at a bistro. But compared to the usual wasteland of McKingBurgers Jr. supplemented by spongy slimy sub sandwiches and greasy pizza, it's a godsend.

All of you complaining about the quality of the stores, why aren't you over in the other thread, fighting to accelerate S50 development? If you don't build it they won't come. (Not that I'm much bothered either way, I just find the cognitive dissonance amusing.)
Desiring better quality stores in already built existing buildings does not equate to desiring S50 housing developed. We have plenty of shoppers here already including all the customers that will be coming from surrounding areas like Placerville and Cameron Park etc.

I feel MOSTLY the same way, EAH. What I am hoping for is that it starts like this, but then takes off over time. I think when other companies see it to start filling up, the economy is better, maybe they will all jump on it. Especially when one anchor actually opens (Whole Foods). Sometimes I think some tennants may use somewhat of a "wait and see" approach.
I have long since been very dissapointed in not having a major dept. store as an anchor. To me, Palladio is BLOWING IT by not bringing in a "unique to the area" department store like Nieman Marcus, Dillards, Bloomingdales, etc. But if Elliott is not "going there", at least throw a bone like Pottery Barn or Crate & Barrell.
I agree with your first paragraph. Some businesses may be reluctant to invest in the mall until they see how others fare.
As for the second paragraph, 'blowing it'? I'm sure the Palladio folks would love to have any of those stores mentioned. How do you propose they get them there?

This is what's wrong with America! (well, that and all of the other stuff, but I digress...).
This is a partial list of what you find at nearly every single mall in America.
You forgot Sunglass Hut, Claire's, Lids and Sbarro.
Bubba Gumps? Are you kidding? I pray each night that Bubba Gumps will never stain this holy place.
I'm half-joking, but seriously, I don't know what you put in a mall these days. All of the stores are the same ones you find at every other mall. No more mom and pop businesses. No more entrepreneurs. Just corporate giants.

I haven't been to Panera for a couple of years, but I never noticed an odd smell.
I completely agree with you - I'd much rather eat at a bistro, but when there is nothing but fast food joints around, it is a great.
I'm glad it's coming because there are lots of people who work up here in EDH with me who will now drive over to the Pallidio, and probably drop some $$ into the Folsom economy. So it's a very good thing.

I agree. I don't get the big deal either for lunch. I mean, it's okay. I got a croissant there once that was huge, but it was all air inside and totally dried out.
They have a pretty good breakfast sandwich and pastries, but those aren't something I can eat often if I still want to fit through doorways.
There is a place I thought would be good for Folsom. I can't remember the name of it. It's over by Hurley & Fair Oaks Blvd. They have breads shaped like turtles and other shapes and I really liked their gumbo & salad. Can anybody help me out on the name???

Are you thinking more around Fair Oaks & Howe/Fulton? Like Ettore's, or Boudin's?

You nailed it. It's Boudin's I was thinking of. I wrote Hurley when I meant Fulton. Thanks, caligirlz:)
