stevethedad, I know the place you speak of (Fortune House) across from Target. I remember when it first opened and the parking lot was always packed. That always deterred me from going, but I'll definitely have to try Fortune House out.

You should give Jennie's another try. They had an extensive de-Americanization process a few months ago and replaced the white waiter and the latino cook with a German waiter and an English cook.

And this is good? rofl.gif

I can make simple Chinese dishes in an ok fashion, so I go for Chinese restaurants for dishes I simply cannot or will not cook myself.

A dish that I always get is Hong Kong Style Pan Fried Noodles with Beef. Most restaurants use thin noodles versus the thicker (spaghetti sized) noodles. Thin noodles and I'm golden.

We went to the Melting Pot this weekend. Wicked good!

Quite an experience. Highly recommend I do.

It is quite good and is a very fun place to go with a group of friends. I felt it was a bit pricy for what we got, though. In fairness, we did have wine pairings with each dish. We spent $150 for the two of us.

How is the Bidwell Stree Bistro?

I've seen excellent reviews of the place, but never went there . . . yet anyway.

Has anyone gone to eat at my brother vinnys or whatever it is called on sutter street in folsom. Me and my girlfriend went there a couple months back and it was horrible it was not a busy night there and we waited nearly 20 minutes for our server to come to our table once we had sat down. The servers also were very rude and the food was not good. All in all i cant imagine a restaurant like that could even make it a few months. I dont know if we just had a bad experience or what and was just wondering what anyone else thats gone there thought.

MY BROTHER VINNY's on Sutter, upstairs.

I DID go there once and had a good experience - friendly waiters and good food, but then again, my name is Vinny, so maybe I got favored treatment!

We've eaten at Gigi's several times.  While another post here indicated some disappointment, our experience at Gigi’s has been excellent.  The food was fresh, tasty and different from other fine Folsom restaurants.  Yes, the prices are on the high side but somewhat comparable to Scott's and I think Cliff House.  The location is less than satisfying but the environment inside is very nice.  The bar area is small but the drinks are generous and done well.  Give it a try.

We tried Gigi's a little over a month ago and had a great experience. Live piano music on the weekend, superior service and mixed drinks...but unfotunetly I heard some news this last Saturday night from a friend of mine who's babysitting clients are regulars. She said the place was probably going to close down because the head chef just quit. Instead of hiring a new chef, the owner was doing the cooking himself and buying the food (including steaks) at Costco! rolleyes.gif These regulars she knows say these past few weeks the food has been pretty bad sad.gif I will try to get specific information as I'd still like to dine there in the future. If anyone has been there in the past few weeks, let me know if this seems to be the case! weirdsmiley.gif

My Brother Vinny's is brought to you by the guy who used to own Bailies.

I've had lunch there once, a private party once, and drinks a couple of times.

Never had any problems and food was good. Good wine list. Nice atmosphere. Great happy hour.

Female bartender was great. Male was bad. The margarita he made my wife was worse than the ones you get in the can.

The food is great, IMO. I highly recommend the Muscovy Duck Confit. My wife and I went there a little over a week ago and both ordered the same things - French onion soup, the duck, and creme brulee. Delicious.

Bidwell Street Bistro is excellent; the chef, Wendy Mentink, comes from a long line of chefs/restauranteurs. Her family owned the world renowned Buckhorn in Winters, CA -- a great, fun place. Mostly steak, but pasta and seafood more and more.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this restaurant yet (10 pages is a lot to read through). So if they did, here it is again.

An EXCELLENT Japanese restaurant (the best I have been to, and I have been to many and I am part Japanese) is Shoki located at 705 Gold Lake Drive near the Lake Natoma Inn (right next door to Zinfindalle *sp?* Grille).

to ad to that list of bad is Jennie's Palace...good personality, but the food quality went way down. And I disaggree about China House, they've updated their menu these past couple of weeks and there's some new excellent items.

It's amazing how strongly people differ on what makes good Chinese food... That must be why Folsom can support so many different Chinese resturaunts! smile.gif

China House was one of the first few places I ate when I moved to California from Illinois about 10 years ago. I still recall the meal, and thinking about how much better it was than the sad Chinese food in the Chicago suburbs.

As a result, I always end up at China House or Rice Express. Having eaten at just about every other Chinese place in town, and wouldn't think of going to Jennie's Palace, Golden Lake, Hop Sing's, or that sad place over by the movie theater. (Is it still even there?)

In any event, I'd prefer to support any of the local Chinese resturaunts over the new "chain" ones that are sneaking into town like Panda Express or Pick up stix.
