And this is good?

I can make simple Chinese dishes in an ok fashion, so I go for Chinese restaurants for dishes I simply cannot or will not cook myself.
A dish that I always get is Hong Kong Style Pan Fried Noodles with Beef. Most restaurants use thin noodles versus the thicker (spaghetti sized) noodles. Thin noodles and I'm golden.

It is quite good and is a very fun place to go with a group of friends. I felt it was a bit pricy for what we got, though. In fairness, we did have wine pairings with each dish. We spent $150 for the two of us.

I've seen excellent reviews of the place, but never went there . . . yet anyway.

MY BROTHER VINNY's on Sutter, upstairs.
I DID go there once and had a good experience - friendly waiters and good food, but then again, my name is Vinny, so maybe I got favored treatment!

We tried Gigi's a little over a month ago and had a great experience. Live piano music on the weekend, superior service and mixed drinks...but unfotunetly I heard some news this last Saturday night from a friend of mine who's babysitting clients are regulars. She said the place was probably going to close down because the head chef just quit. Instead of hiring a new chef, the owner was doing the cooking himself and buying the food (including steaks) at Costco!

I've had lunch there once, a private party once, and drinks a couple of times.
Never had any problems and food was good. Good wine list. Nice atmosphere. Great happy hour.
Female bartender was great. Male was bad. The margarita he made my wife was worse than the ones you get in the can.

The food is great, IMO. I highly recommend the Muscovy Duck Confit. My wife and I went there a little over a week ago and both ordered the same things - French onion soup, the duck, and creme brulee. Delicious.

An EXCELLENT Japanese restaurant (the best I have been to, and I have been to many and I am part Japanese) is Shoki located at 705 Gold Lake Drive near the Lake Natoma Inn (right next door to Zinfindalle *sp?* Grille).

to ad to that list of bad is Jennie's Palace...good personality, but the food quality went way down. And I disaggree about China House, they've updated their menu these past couple of weeks and there's some new excellent items.

It's amazing how strongly people differ on what makes good Chinese food... That must be why Folsom can support so many different Chinese resturaunts!

China House was one of the first few places I ate when I moved to California from Illinois about 10 years ago. I still recall the meal, and thinking about how much better it was than the sad Chinese food in the Chicago suburbs.
As a result, I always end up at China House or Rice Express. Having eaten at just about every other Chinese place in town, and wouldn't think of going to Jennie's Palace, Golden Lake, Hop Sing's, or that sad place over by the movie theater. (Is it still even there?)
In any event, I'd prefer to support any of the local Chinese resturaunts over the new "chain" ones that are sneaking into town like Panda Express or Pick up stix.
