So I really noticed how less geographically acurate a 1866 map is when doing this, but the result is still way cool.

Here's a zoom on the popular winery area.

In Google Earth, go to 'add', then 'image overlay'.  Select the file, then with the image overlay window still open, manipulate the image with the green bars.  Its a little trial and error to get it in the right place.

so what are the alternative water sources if the water level gets down to or below the utility intakes?

There is already a thread about this.

not the best way to be famous!  I prefer being known for the prison and Johnny Cash!

In other news, I was out on a bike ride with my dad today and we stopped at the top of Folsom lake crossing to look at the lake. No sooner than we stopped a guy with a security vest on walked over to us and told us we were not allowed to stop and loiter or take any pictures from there. I told him, I know you're just doing your job so don't take this personally but you cannot tell me I can't stop here or take pictures. He told me he would be calling the sac county sheriff so they could have a word with me...wtf is this about?

That is really odd.  I wonder if it has something to do with the spillway.

Who else remembers when there was a parking lot called the overlook up there? It was the most wonderful place to just hang out and check out the lake on late summer afternoons? Wouldn't it be awesome if there were a nice big restaurant with a panoramic view of the lake up there when they finish the construction work?

In the meantime, something has them pretty worried. Sorry you got hassled, Chris.

You mean the place where you could watch the submarine races?  ;) I'd settle for being able to park there again and maybe a shaved ice cart.

I wonder if the airplane wreckage surfaced they've been looking for?
