S50, in my opinion, should also be required to be built out with a groundwater replenishment system that recycles sewage and wastewater into tap water like Orange County has invested in. http://www.gwrsystem.com

I don't know if you remember, but a while ago there was the story about how our sewer treatment bills from Sacramento County were going to go up considerably because of a new treatment system needed to, basically, return drinking-grade water into the river.  I was wondering why we need the county to do this.  If we are already paying to treat the wastewater so that it's clean enough to drink, why couldn't we do that in-house (set aside some land S50) and provide the water N50 uses to S50?  If there is leftover water, I'm sure it could be used for infill N50 or sold.

Folsom used to have its own sewage treatment plant at the old corporation yard.  https://www.folsom.c...spx?blobid=8842

Instead of treating wastewater ourselves, we pipe it to the SRCSD plant for treatment and discharge into the river.  Building an maintaining a wastewater treatment plant is expensive $100M range.

If we could levy a fee on all the S50 development to build our own water reclamation facility so we can reuse that water, it would be a good idea.  A much simpler and cheaper solution would be to require that every new property have a cistern to capture stormwater and either reuse it for landscaping or percolate it into the ground with a drywell.

I figured I was oversimplifying a complicated process.

I like your latter idea.  That much less water taken from the lake, too.

They should also mandate that all new landscaping in the S50 zone use Smart Irrigation Controllers, like this one: http://www.rainbird....rs/ESP-SMTe.htm

I can't count how many times I've seen people watering their lawns on rainy days.  City landscaping included too.

Just don't let them have any grass lawns south of 50.  Let them have a cactus Arizona type yard only.

Make them save water.

Our climate is probably too wet for cactus :)  Just plant oaks and manzanitas.  The oak grove S50 has endured 100s of years without any man-made irrigation, and I''' wager has survived droughts much worse than this year.

We have a lot of succulent plants and they've done very well.

As long as you cover and protect them during the short freezes we have, they will do fine.

That's what we do with our cactus plants, birds of paradise, lemon tree, etc. We bought covers specially designed to help prevent frost on plants and they work very well.

For those interested in stopping the theft of our water, please see the new topic "Stop The City Council's Theft Of Your Water" under the Local Politics section of this Forum.

This current topic focusing on conservation has been very interesting to follow, and I hope it continues. My new topic is not meant to divert or hijack this topic. I noticed many posts here that have already brought up the concern of the Council's theft of our water so started the new topic for that focus only.

At least the manzanitas could possibly be a crime deterrent. Have you ever got snagged on a mazanita branch? ouch!
