It was a 4-1 vote. Kerri is the only one that voted against this.

"Starsky and Miklos went as far as to want to name it the "City of Folsom" bridge, in an effort to pat themselves on the back for all the hard work they put in to getting this thing approved (even though it wasn't even in the contest or a finalist). Miklos even lashed out at the crowd for the gall of naming the bridge after a man who's never been recognized."

King voted for it but it didn't seem like he was self-serving about it... he just didn't want to be associated with Cash. By the time Morin voted on it, Starsky and Miklos had already railroaded everyone.

Morin was on the fence and even went as far as to motion to vote on Johnny Cash Crossing (which was seconded by Kerri), but Miklos got his panties in a wad and counter-motioned or something like that. Before you knew it, it was done. The Cash Crossing thing never even got voted on. I left at that point. This is why I don't attend city council meetings.

Way to congratulate yourselves for doing your job , boys.

Thanks to Ms Howell and Mr Morin for their support - it just irritates me that everyone in the crowd that spoke was in favor of Johnny Cash, yet they decided that they thought it was in the city's best interest to pat themselves (the city council) on the back. I never have been more ashamed to see our city council in action. Honestly, I was pissed.

The one good thing that came out of it is that they seemed to be receptive to honoring Cash with a statue somewhere in town (just not near the bridge). Perhaps they can do it somewhere that has a view of the prison. There's got to be an area somewhere around there that would have a suitable view that people can safely pull offf.

Makes you wonder why people don't show up to speak their minds at city council meetings, huh? My hat's off to the people that actually took the time and to Kerri for never being afraid to be the dissenting vote.

Folsom Lake Crossing just seems so boring. It's more suitable for one of those new housing divisions where they can't seem to settle on the geography like Folsom Lake Hills Canyon Valley Crossing. We had a chance to do something memorable and chickened out.

Oh, well. It will be the Rainbow Bridge, The New Bridge By Old Town, and The Dam Bridge for me.

Man you guys sound like a bunch of sore losers. Did you really expect something grand from this? Was that bridge name one of the ones sent it? Was there a winner of the contest that will be invited to the grand opening or was that a scam as well? If it was a name sent in how exactly is it self-serving?

if you had been there it was quite obvious. They couldn't stop talking about how they wanted to recognize Folsom and the city council for all the hard work they did. They didn't even want to consider any of the 4 finalists.

It's just a bridge name. I just can't stand politicians, this is why. Too arrogant.

And what's with the obsession of "crossings", in my mind, even though I was against the JC naming, I'm also apalled but not surprised by the idiocy of the council. The dam bridge doesn't cross Folsom Lake. Folsom Lake Bridge would make sense, it's a bridge adjacent to Folsom Lake, but if they wanted to call it a crossing, well it crosses the American River, so American River Crossing would be a logical choice.

Once again, our fearless leaders have proved their stupidity and arrogance.

Not surprised!!!
I would rather be Backpacking

Hi All,

Please, not all the so called leaders are stupid or arrogant. I am not stupid or arrogant (high IQ and I post here and respond to email s and phone calls). I was strongly in favor of naming the bridge after Johnny Cash and I talked to a lot of people about it, explaining my reasoning - his influence on the name recognition we have, and a bunch of other reasons that I talked about here and at the Council meeting. I want to thank those of you who voted for Johnny Cash on this website and to those who chose a different name. I am disappointed that my colleagues on the Council are so short sighted. This was a big mistake for attracting tourists and for national recognition for the City - good national press is hard to come by. I do want to thank Andy for supporting Johnny Cash initially. I have been the lone wolf on the City Council for so long - it feels good when I get support for something every now and then.

Thank you again for those who spoke up on your choice - even if you disagreed with me.
Color me unhappy with the choice the council made - and for my next trick, I need to write a letter of apology to the Cash family - I may refer to this site - though I probably don't need to since John mentioned it tonight

Folsom Lake Crossing? That wasn't even in the naming contest. What a sham.

I'll probably get in trouble for this but:

Yea this was a big dissappointment to me... when I was watching the tube last night and heard this....

man what a stupid name....

For god's sake... no one in 20 years is going to remember who was behind the building of this bridge... and like many posters before me... I call the Lake Natoma Crossing..."the new bridge"... and it would have gotten us a lot of National Press to have named the bridge after Johnny Cash....

One of the things I remember going through Steamboat Springs, Colorado in 1990, was that they had a sense of humor... they had two bridges... one was called "The James Brown Soul Center of the Universe Bridge" and the other was just named "Bob"...

Johnny Cash Expressway would have been cool... really cool... and we'd have all gotten a chuckle each and everytime we went over the bridge... but now...? it's just a bridge..

Yea I think Steve Miklos and Starsky have just been on the stinking council for too long...and I'm dissappointed in Andy Morin.. and have been a long time...

For the record, I applaud Ms Howell for sticking to her guns. She was simply outnumbered by the others. Kerri, I'm not disappointed in you - I was more disappointed in counci lmembers Starsky and Miklos - their shoulders must hurt from patting themselves on the back so much. I was disappointed Mayor King didn't stick up for Kerri when she was getting lambasted.

Good idea, Andrea V. If the council can name it whatever they want and ignore the names submitted, then I don't see why we can't ignore them and call it whatever we want.

I can't wait until I'm cruising across the Johnny Cash Bridge.

well, the old council continues to disappoint...."crossing" wasn't that used for another new bridge

on the bright side they could have named it after their favoirte developer

when will the city be big enough to vote for a mayor, and Kerri would make a good one.

would have been nice for Morin to go down in flames with Kerri on the vote but that would have taken backbone

you always wonder what the side deal is for sly miklos and starsky

king goes along with the flow with that deer in the headlight look

but good job fiesty kerri, and stay in touch
