.... does not imply you think it's only a few

It IS more than a few, but it also isn't ALL.

From: http://edocket.acces.../27cfr24.75.htm

(a) General. Any adult may, without payment of tax, produce wine for
personal or family use and not for sale.
(b) Quantity. The aggregate amount of wine that may be produced
exempt from tax with respect to any household may not exceed:
(1) 200 gallons per calendar year for a household in which two or
more adults reside, or
(2) 100 gallons per calendar year if there is only one adult
residing in the household.

OOOHHH. I think I got lost in the wine vs. gas thread. I can easily see that you can legally produce 200 gal of wine for personal (not for sale) consumption per year. However, I don't believe you can legally produce any bio-diesel fuel. Maybe you can but I've not seen such a rule and I know the enviromental types have been upset by this rule.

Ever notice that pilots always return to the "gate" and never the "terminal"?

force him to serve as Steve Jobs lap dog for a year

or 32 years in prison, one year for each gig

Seriously, what punishment fits a police officer walking into a store and stealing a $350 iPod? I somehow doubt you'd expect him to go to jail for 32 years.

I personally hold a peace officer to a higher standard. The limits of the crime are $1000 dollar fine, up to 6mo in jail, or a combination of both. What do you think would be fair? Do you think he would be terminated for stealing an iPod Touch?

well at $350 it's not grand theft, I think the punishment should be considered shoplifting or petty theft and a $500 fine and/or 6 months in jail

that seems appropriate, for officers and citizens alike

I have no idea what the real law and punishment is but that seems fitting to me

in the case of the used grease, I just can't (in my head) consider it equal to an ipod, although I see your point that it is of value as a recycled fuel

for me, I still hold our law making politicians to a higher standard then police officers, but yet we let them get away with murder on a daily basis - go figure

That's what surprises me about all this - I too thought it was a big deal for certain environmentalists who want to make their own fuels - from what I'm learning that sounds completely impossible to do with all the laws, regulations, fees, taxes etc... it almost makes considering bio-diesel a joke - it'll be no more cost effective then gas at that rate

You can bet that the gubmint doesn't want us citizens making our own fuel. They need us to keep buying from the pump and paying the taxes associated with doing so. The man doesn't want us to be self reliant!

Your reasoning is no better - you're comparing what most people refer to as trash - USED GREASE - to a car and items in a garage? Let's try and keep things in perspective here.

Plus how can you claim they were stealing when Malabar (the owner of the grease) wasn't the one that called in the theft?

Why does the rendering company have claims on the grease? that's why I said they would need to prove they have a contract - aka ownership of the used grease - is that too much to ask to have substantial evidence that there really is a crime and a victim? - if they do indeed have a contract with malabar - then they parties are indeed guilty - period.

I'm not asking for too much and I'm sorry you don't like my opinion, but I prefer logical reasoning with facts and evidence.

You go Dave! So, right......

I'll go for demoting him to a desk job with reduced salary.

A guy like that should NOT have a badge and gun.
