Old Soldier,

I had sincerely hoped that Rosemary was elected to the Council - we would have had a shot to rename the bridge after Johnny (that and a list of other reasons that I wanted her to get elected, but, alas, that did not happen). With regard to being fiesty though, Cyndi Dow (former Council Member) and I have a long fascination with "The Wizard of Oz", mostly with the witches. Remember Glenda's line in the movie when she met Dorothy, "Are you a good witch or a bad witch"? To which Dorothy replied, "Why I am not a witch at all"? Before the Council meetings, Cyndi and I would ask the same question - as it turned out, more often than not, she was the good witch and I was the bad witch, for obvious reasons! Cyndi's birthday is the day after mine. A few years ago, after she moved away, I sent her a Wizard of Oz lunchbox - which she sometimes used as a purse. Well, this year for my birthday, friends from Folsom got me a sign that says "Don't make me release the flying monkees" (you will recall they were the monkees that guarded the wicked witch's castle). They made me promise to bring it to a Council meeting. The same people then surprised me at Christmas with a key chain. The key chain has a tape of six quotes from the wicked witch, in her voice. Again, they made me promise to play the sayings during a Council meeting. It has been sitting in front of me during the meetings, I am waiting for just the right moment. Stay tuned to upcoming Council meetings..................

Options include "How about a little fire, Scarecrow"
"Leaving my little party so soon? I wouldn't hear of it"
"I can cause accidents too!"
"I'll get you yet, my pretty, and your little dog too"
The sound of the evil laugh.
"I'm melting................."
"How bout something with a little poison in it"
and, last, but not least
Oh de oh, de oh do (the song sung by the flying monkees while they marched around the castle)

Now imagine me doing the evil laugh, as I sign off - and trust me, I do a pretty good imitation of the wicked witch!

Ah, ha ha ha ha ha ha

I like the idea but I still think you could cap the moment with "this is bull...t"
( and then watch the standing ovation from the crowd)

Sorry, I should've clarified my statement.

Although at some point in his life he may have donned some sort of cattle herding headwear, the popular image of Johnny Cash is of a hatless man in black, and as such any individuals distraught enough about the naming of a bridge in a town loosely affiliated with Cash to show up at the opening ceremony of said bridge and "protest" should not wear any kind of hair covering device.

Old Soldier,

You have no idea how many times I have thought just that during the last 10 years!!!!! However, I do not want to be the first council member to get "bleeped" during the broadcast.

I will simply go with the black (and let all of you wonder if I am thinking about the wicked witch or Johnny Cash) I will find some way to give a sign to the Cash supporters but it may need to be a subtle one. Oh Yeah, and we can be certain that we will not have Roaseanne Cash singing the National Anthem at the opening.

I think you're right.

how about a dark or black suit, swept back hair, and dark sunglasses?

Just stumbled across this thread. Honestly, I can't believe people are still so fired up about the name of a bridge! Yeah, "Johnny Cash Bridge" or whatever would have been cooler than what we ended up with but in the final analysis it's still just a structure of reinforced concrete and asphalt. I, for one, am just happy that the darn thing will be open soon!

come on... we're all glad it's done....

but we've got a few stodgy dudes on the city council that don't really have any humor or vision unless it comes from "staff"...

they're trying to make Folsom I guess look and sound like some snooty Bay Area enclave... and naming the bridge after Johnny Cash well... that's just too county for the snobby "wine and cheese" crowd....

Steamboat Springs, Colorado had a bridge named the "James Brown Soul Center of the Universe Bridge"... and one just named "Bob"...

How cool is that...?

That reminds me of my college days writing software programs. The instructor said to name our programs. Most people would name it based on what the program would do.

I opted for program names like Fred & George. lmao.gif

I can see your point about getting "bleeped" what maybe your my folsom fans and you can come up with a hand signal for the word bull...t. say making a fist and hitting your chest twice with your right hand and then raise your hand and show two fingers.

then we would all cheer and the boys would never know what happened and no bleep

I don't see it as a "snooty Bay Area" thing. It's a bridge. It's appropriately named. Yes, that little stretch of river is still considered part of Folsom Lake. It's weird, I know. I don't pretend to understand.

For the record, I voted for Johnny Cash bridge. I thought it might be cool. But when it was named something else I shrugged and said "no big deal." I just find it funny how invested some of you are in the naming of this thing. Dressing in black? Secret signals with Kerri? Cash look a likes? Maybe you'll change some minds, but I doubt it. I'm not so sure your multitudes of supporters are as great as you think. After all, it's just a stretch of road. As long as it gets people from A to B they don't really care what it's named. I doubt more than 5% of those that cross the "new bridge" know its proper name.

The name they picked is embarassingly stupid.
