No personal attacks. It's a pretty plain and simple rule. Learn it. Live it.

The family called to get help for him...not because they were scared for their lives.

I wasn't there, so please forgive me for bringing this up, but that doesn't make sense to me. If my child was behaving the way as reported, I would have brought him to the hospital myself if I wasn't afraid of physical violence.

I'm sure the family knows now, and hopefully, we all do. Calling the police was not a good idea, because they don't appear to be trained for this type of thing.

The family could have called a psychiatric hospital

All this arguing yet it has been said many times that this is a horrible tragedy for both the family and police officers. Wouldn't it be better to wait for the investigation report before accusing the PD of any wrongdoing or failure?

Hopefully the outcome of the report will help the community understand what happened and how to prevent an incident like this from all points.

And police are trained more than the average joe.. Thats why they are police.. They have a lot of authority.. With that comes a lot of responsibility.. Their word is valued much more than an average citizen in the eyes of most and that can go to a persons head.. All personal opinions and emotions aside, someone died as a result of police action.. They should be held accountable for Joseph Hans death.. Plain and simple..

DD - Are there any circumstances that would have justified shooting Joseph?

Maybe you didn't see my earlier questions, so here they are again.

What time did you get to Elkins Circle on Easter Sunday? Where you by chance taping interviews with the neighbors? Have you always been mistrustful of the police, or is your anger strictly a result of Joseph's shooting?

I'm curious too about his answers to those questions.

There's been a whole lot of accusations from Darryl - who wasn't there in the room with them all when this happened, but the tone of his posts try and make it sound like he was there or in the know about anything and everything to do with this family.

sorry but it just seems like Darryl hates all police

We still don't know what "this type of thing was." There are more questions then answers right now. I agree that there are situations when you don't need to call the police...just let the family handle it. Maybe the family had already tried and considered the police their last option.

I was at the Vigal for Joe Han on sunday, it was very nice and a good chance for his friends to come together and remember him. I look forward to the next one.

I think the main thing we should all learn from this situation is that if you have a problem don't call the police, they just make it worse.

I don't know about you all, but if a person is coming at me with a knife and I have a gun, he/she is going to get shot.

Exactly. If I were an LEO, my goal everyday would be to live another day to see my family; and if that means I have to shoot somebody who is coming at me with a knife, then so be it. Police are paid to enforce the law, not die to prevent injury to a suspect.

I really don't think it is fair for anyone to be "armchair quarterbacking" the officers or the family. None of us were there so we don't know exactly what happened. The scene could have played out in many ways, but police officers don't always have the luxury of taking longer than a few seconds to make a decision. The family may or may not have feared for their lives. Nobody knows the events that led up to the incident so we can not judge the family for nat taking a different course of action either...

Maybe the man could have been subdued without the use of lethal force, but is it really a police officer's job to fight an armed man while being unarmed?

What if the police left the man in his home and he killed himself and/or a family member(s)? You better beleive that the police would be under fire for that.

The whole thread was about beating a dead horse wasn't it?

Anyway, I thought he actually summed it up in a very thoughtful manner. Welcome to the forum :-)
