Hey everyone -
I had to delete quite a bit of bickering going on here on this thread. This thread obviously hit a little close to home, as Pathfinder was involved in the accident.

Everyone needs to keep something in mind here - this site has gotten pretty big, and we have thousands of active members. Chances are, if something happens, it may involve a MyFolsomite, or at the least, someone knows them and they will eventually be reading the gossip. I'm not saying to censor your comments, I'm just saying please be respectful. We're all neighbors here and we all run in to MyFolsomites every day, chances are we just don't know it.

Perhaps this is just another sign of the times. Perhaps people are frustrated with the economy, stressed over keeping the jobs / getting a job, increasing debt and all the while worried about taking care of their family and kids.

And then something like this happens where people make careless/carefree decisions that had the potential of ruining innocent lives and of the youths involved.

The waste and potential waste of life is just frustrating. This, the Oakland looting, gun control, immigration issues, the ongoing economic issues --- so many senseless things that we can't control that affect our daily lives that lead to stress.

I wonder if it's possible for an entire nation to suffer from a mild case of PTSD.... ? Maybe we'll find out if the stress ever ends....

And this is what frustrates me...

...There was no use of marijuana that night. Yes it was in the car, which was yet another mistake.

People REALLY need to learn the whole true story before they comment.

When a car full of teens crashes, and booze, empty booze bottles and weed are found in the car, can you understand how one might draw the conclusion that the 4 teens had
been drinking the booze and smoking the weed?

There is more about this accident in today's The Folsom Telegraph, dated July 14, 2010. I can not find the link to it yet or I would put it here. Headline is "Teen arrested after rollover crash"
A VETERAN Whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount "up to and including their life". That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -Author unknown-

Pathfinder......what exactly is a Pathfinder?

A vehicle slightly less prone to rollovers than an Explorer.

Not to be flippant, but I found "Pathfinder" to be a rather ironic pseudonym.

It seems things have not changed much since I was in high school. Back then, I recall that rolling your car (I attended a prep school back east where many students of driving age--but not I--had their own cars) was almost a rite of passage, until one of my classmates nearly killed himself. And that was when the only SUVs were International Scouts, Suburbans and Blazers. Teen drivers and high-CG vehicles are not a good combination. When are rollovers most common? At high speeds when the driver makes a sudden steering correction (or over-correction). What are teen drivers prone to? Driving too fast and lacking the experience to provide subtle handling inputs to the vehicle at those speeds. Throw some friends in the car, loud music (drowns out some of the perception of speed) and drugs or alcohol and it's a wonder that any high-CG vehicles remain rubber-side down.

I went to Pathfinder school in the US Army. Just wondering if it had any correlation to that. Doubt it since I have a vague idea as to how old you are. That's all.

Boyscout Merit Badge for this year.

Pathfinder I'm glad "the female" is home.

Joanne-there is absolutely no teaching kids that this cannot happen again, and oh, look at the mess this kid made. Not the way you are describing. These kids knew about that program. Laughed at your staff and the FPD and drank away the safety of the town.

Just look at this kid.

He is responding to all messages with cheek. This is his thread.
He is responding the way someone who is hoping is a lawyer and will see these messages will think they should give him a easy shake, would respond.
He is not responding with conviction.
Or it wouldn't have been-"I'm going to stay sober for the rest of the summer"
the answer should have been " I will kill myself before I ever put any of my friends lives in jeopardy, ever again."

period.

this kid isn't sorry.

Tell me follks- why is everyone going easy on him?
What, because he came on here and said it is him?

How about asking- why weren't you arrested for possession of marijuana and marijuana products that were in your vehicle?

Why weren't you arrested fro knowingly giving your keys to an unlicensed, drunk, underage person?

Why aren't your parents in jail for the exact same reasons, mentioned above?

There is absolutely no acceptance for this behavior.

I am absolutely, 100% relieved that none of these kids died.
And we really don't know if any of these kids will have any lasting issues, just word of mouth by the kid who gave his keys away.

All of these kids should be in jail. For a long time. Every one of them. Period.

Hows that for teaching the kids at Vista and Folsom Highschools that drinking and driving is incredibly stupid and life altering?

Alter their lives and maybe, someone will respond by not putting the key in the ignition.

Highschool is too good for these kids.

They should be in jail.

Oh, and by the way:

apologies are for_oops I didn't mean to leave that water there and let you slip.

Apologies are meaningless for attempted murder.

And knowingly getting in a vehicle after drinking: is attempted murder.

And handing your keys over to a drunk person: the last time I heard, is a felony.

And you can be tried for attempted murder.

I've been trying to avoid posting too much on this topic as it is obviously a heated subject. That being said, I have to admit I don't disagree with supermom. The words may have been harsh, but ultimately not to far off base. Saying you're sorry and you know you screwed up isn't enough. I'm glad there was a life lesson here, but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be some form of punishment to ENSURE the message got through. No offense Pathfinder, but you have to realize there is no reason to believe you weren't smoking pot. Why, just because you said so? I also have to admit if I were in your shoes, first off, I wouldn't even have access to a computer, cell phone, tv, really nothing but oxygen at this point. And if I were you I think I'd be a little more concerned of jail time or other form of punishment aside from what your parents bestow on you. You are just as responsible for this near tragedy as your friend who took the keys. You just seem to be getting defensive and the more you post the less I feel sorry for you and your situation. Seems like there is a lot more to learn and the people on this forum have the right to express their opinion on your mess. You aren't in a position to be defensive.
Just my 2 cents... Oh and just so I'm not accused of being a cold hearted, teen hater... I too am relieved that all teens involved will be ok. This story could have had a much different ending and no one would want this topic to read: "4 teens KILLED in car wreck"

They were NOT out at 3:30 AM, this occurred at around 11:30 PM. So they were not out past midnight. Please check your info!

Okay, I know I'm the grammar/spelling police, so here's where I get involved in this.....the Bee article said NOT that the incident occurred at 3:30 am, but that the kids were reported to be in serious condition at 3:30 am. Okay? Enough with the 3:30 am and go back and read the article and pay attention. Maybe it wasn't worded in the best way, but that's what it meant.

Wow, Judge, Jury and Executioner all rolled into one. It seems to me that the authorities ought to make those decisions.
