It's amazing how strongly people differ on what makes good Chinese food...  That must be why Folsom can support so many different Chinese resturaunts!  smile.gif

China House was one of the first few places I ate when I moved to California from Illinois about 10 years ago.  I still recall the meal, and thinking about how much better it was than the sad Chinese food in the Chicago suburbs.

As a result, I always end up at China House or Rice Express.  Having eaten at just about every other Chinese place in town, and wouldn't think of going to Jennie's Palace, Golden Lake, Hop Sing's, or that sad place over by the movie theater.  (Is it still even there?)

In any event, I'd prefer to support any of the local Chinese resturaunts over the new "chain" ones that are sneaking into town like Panda Express or Pick up stix.

You are correct. It's all a matter of perspective and taste.

Coming from the Bay Area, I grew up on authentic Chinese, Mexican and other ethnic foods.

I haven't found any good Chinese food here in Folsom, but have had some good stuff in Sac. On the other hand, I went to a Chinese joint in Slidell, Louisiana, and the menu had about 10 items on it, featuring things like, Chop Suey, Egg Foo Young, a Chow Mein dish.

Makes China House seem like Hong Kong

How is the Bidwell Stree Bistro?

I've seen excellent reviews of the place, but never went there . . . yet anyway.

Hi

I'm new....trying to figure out how to do the replies. There are too many options. Anyhow, I'm trying to the Folsom restaurants. Its hard when you have young kids. I've been to Bailies and I was disappointed. I heard so many good things. My husbands ahi was better than my filet. Once again I should maybe stay away from the filets because the one I paid $31.00 for at Bidwell Street Bistro was not worth it.

I do love Chicago Fire Pizza, Strings, Chilis. I love sushi.....Mikuni is my favorite. I have tried Aloha once after reading this board and did enjoy it. As for mexican.....Sol Azteca, Hacienda. I can't believe Mission Rigolio is still in business. The food is terrible and had the rudest waiter during lunch. BJs--I've been to twice and not impressed. I guess if you enjoy beer it would be good.

Did China House change its chef? The foods lately have been kinda sucky.

I tried Potbelly Deli for the second time today and I recommend it for lunch. They have great sandwiches and burgers. Its located in the Bel Air shopping center.

Burgers.. let's talk about burgers.. there's NO GOOD BURGER PLACES IN FOLSOM. There, I said it, I know it may come as a shock to some of you, but there it is.

Don't dare say "BJ's" or "Yager's" .. especially not Yager's. And anyone who says 'McDonalds' better duck quickly! The 8' Burger at Streets of London is tasty, but frickin' huge to the point of being almost inedible.

The best I've found around here is Mark & Monica's in Granite Bay. A bit of a drive, but some tasty food and big TV's!

If anyone cares to argue my statement, I am welcome to suggestions of other places to try. We did try the burger place over by Bel Air, and it was alright *shrug*

How about Red Robin? Haven't been in a while, but they seemed to have great burgers a few years back.

I don't do burgers much anymore, but really don't see a lot of difference between them. Most seem to buy bulk meat patties anyway.

Having said that, I think Chili's has some pretty good ones.

Don't be fooled by the new Mel's Diner going in. Had it in the Bay Area and it sucks!

I made an earlier post about it. One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had.

I have actually found two excellent burgers here in Folsom from two rather unlikely places - Ettore's and Mark & Brian's sportsbar near the movie theater. They are both really good!

Has anyone tried Chicago Fire Pizza?
I saw a couple glowing "reviews" in the Best of Folsom poll, but after looking again I noticed they were all from new or unregistered users.  It looked a little suspicious like an informercial from people with connections to the restaurant.

I have visited Chicago Fire many times, and the reason I keep going back is their stuffed pizza is the best! I'm from the Bay Area and Zachary's has a cult following down in the East Bay. It was the best till I went to Chicago Fire. The only bad thing is that the stuffed pizza takes close to an hour till it's ready (normal for stuffed pizzas). The spinach salad is also great. For dessert, they have a hot, chewy brownie covered with whipped cream and ice cream (similar to a pizzookie at BJ's, but better). It too is very good. I would defintely give it a try.

For Mexican food, don't forget about the new QBOLE Mexican Restaurant located where the old Chevy's used to be. My wife and I just went there and the menu as well as the food is great! Dos Coyotes also is very good.

Other great restaurants in Folsom include: Scott's Seafood and Bidwell Street Bistro.

Look for the new Fat's Restaurant on Est Bidwell and Iron Point to also be Top Notch. It should be open by Summer Time!

Enjoy!

You know, I used to be a busser at the Bidwell Street Bistro, and, not to toot my own horn or anything, but the food is fantastic. I even take money out of my tips to eat a meal there, even though salad and soup are free for the employees.

I highly reccommend it.

My vote is for PICK UP STIX located in the Bel Air complex on E. Bidwell and Broadstone Pkwy. It is the yummiest food ever......oriental fusion.
It is not for the best of dinning experience but a take out is fabulous.
When in doubt eat there....smile.gif
