Gee, maybe some folks would feel more comfortable in W. Virginia where folks have low education, low income, and they can work in a coal mine.

Wow...!   Nothing more racist and intolerant on this Earth than a self righteous, liberal-progressive, example above.   Tio Vinny, you mean those toothless, inbred, white people who talk slow and funny down there in West Virginia.....?

Yes, how very "coastal elite" of you. Keep it up stereotyper. It will earn your fellow progressives another beating. Denigrating over half the population is a surefire path to defeat. Some quick comparisons of CA to WVa:

W Va has more people over 65, CA has more under 18.

Which is probably related to this; CA has 27% foreign born populace (!!!), WVA has 1.5%

WVA median gross rent is 643, CA is 1255

WVA language other than English spoken at home is 2.5%, CA is 43.9%

WVA pop per square mile is 77, CA is 239

CA does have more college graduates, but has less high school graduates.

CA also has a higher per capita income of 30k vs 23.5K although that is mitigated by the huge cost of living difference. With a national average of 100, Morgantown WVA has an index of 95. SF has an index of 272

Or put another way, A salary of $182,000 in Morgantown, West Virginia should increase to $519,510 in San Francisco, California

So yeah, keep on stereotyping. WVA could give a rats arse about what some progressive CAlifornian thinks of them.

FOrgot to add that CA ranks behind WV in academic rating although BOTH have had their science scores decline from 2009-2015. CA ranks 47th overall and WV ranks 43rd overall in academic performance.  So turn your low education, low income mirror right back on yourself.

And yet, Calif calls the tune for the country.   When Calif sneezes, the rest of the country catches a cold.

It USED to be that way. Now CA has decided to double down on stupid policies while the rest of the country is going in the opposite direction. The non-coastal "regular folks" often mock CA.

The "regular folks" mocking the 6th largest economy in the world only demonstrates their jealousy.  They should be grateful because Calif pulls the rest of the country to the top of the global economy.  And California spins off companies and jobs to their states while we're doing it.  And Californians live a life style they can only dream about while we're doing it.

And why do you bash the place that's giving you a nice lifestyle?  I don't get all the complaining. If someone handed you a check for one million dollars, would you complain that they spelled "milion" with only one "l"?

You dodged his comment with your usual irrelevant blather. If you are going to declare something to be true that most people do NOT believe is true, then the burden is on you to provide proof. As the old saying goes:

Do you mean California and it's 1.3 Trillion dollar debt.............?   Grateful for CA....?    I  think not.....   Progressive gravy train ends soon, buried in "carbon credits", "high speed rail", state employees retiring at age 50 on a full boat with medical....   The rest of us have to work until age 67...    And the continual welfare state draw that the democrats pay for with my tax dollars to bring in more democrat voters who don't work, who don't contribute anything but fatherless children to feed our schools system.   And supplemented by illegal children from Mexico to bring class sizes to 35 or so.....?    Yep, jealous....?   No.   Your socialist, liberal, progressive state will collapse soon, in a few years and then get back to me when they raise your house tax to $14,000 a year and you move back to whence you came...... Colorado.  Colorado, another state the liberals will soon turn into a high tax, anti business, welfare hell hole...... You'll wake up then I hope.  Chris

Good lord, this administration is melting down in spectacular fashion. Combine that with the complete implosion of the Republican party, the inane, stupid, bizarre Democrat party, and a genuinely pissed off populace and you have the recipe for major social unrest. Hang on lads, it is going to be a bumpy ride

And who is to blame....?   Just ask yourself, you democrats and progressives.   Why are you not saying "President Joe Biden" right now....?   Who's fault is that...?   You, you democrats, liberals, progressives ran a terrible, evil woman of a candidate, nobody liked her, including her husband.....!   She was so dis-likable, and still is...!   Why not Joe...?   When does a sitting VP not run for POTUS.....?   I think never.   Just ask Bernie Sanders, who I voted for in the CA primary, who got screwed by the DNC and the Hillary machine and the democrats in general.   Trump, not my fault, all yours democrats.   Think about that and you will see that I am right whether you like to admit it or not.   Who_dem, Tio Vinny, actually your fault, not mine.  Chris

There'll be no social unrest as long as the economy keeps rolling along.  And corporate America has managed to become the major influencer of our political landscape.  Wall St and the big banks aren't going to let social unrest happen.  there are very subtle but powerful forces at work that will keep American noses glued to their cell phones and social media.  they'll be too busy playing with their Twitter feed to go start any social unrest.

Cakes and circuses will only get you so far.. While I agree that the erosion of civic duty, lack of knowledge of history and the self-absorbed, short attention span of the public lend power to the "overlords," the fact is that Congressional approval is dismal. Presidential approval is dismal. Faith in government is dismal. Their is a simmering cauldron of hate brewing. It lies just below the surface veneer of civility. Funny thing though, it is there for many different reasons, but has one commonality... getting screwed by the government. Bureaucracies have been trampling on the populace at an ever increasing rate. Whether a BLM protestor, an anti-tax protestor, a victim of EPA overreach, a business owner fed up with burdensome regulations that increase every year, a victim of public union thuggery, and all those in between, more and more people are seeing government as the problem, not the solution. There WILL be a clash between those that see government as a sugar daddy, and those that see it as a bloated beast devouring more and more. Until now, those being devoured have had a lot more to lose than those getting "freebies." At some point though, a limit is reached.

Corporate sponsorship or not, a mob is uncontrollable. I'm sure Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette thought they were in control too.

The way people feel and reality seem to be way out of sync.  Those brooding about the problems you mention need only step back from the trees to see the forest.  With all the supposed problems, America is still the largest and most productive economy in the world.  Same story for California.  With all it's perceived problems, this state is the 6th largest economy in the world.  these fundamental facts are no accident.  So why is everyone complaining?  I don't get it.

All the people who think this country sucks should take a trip to Dominican Republic, or India, or Caracas, or South Sudan.  Your attitude will change very quickly.

I don't think the country sucks. I do however see it heading in a bad direction. Same for CA. The "complaining" is just noticing things that are changing in a negative direction AND having the intelligence and imagination to extrapolate where those idiotic decisions/changes will lead.
