As a matter of fact, now that I think about it, I do know one American that was actually celebrating the fact that it happened in the privacy of their own home, while at the same time displaying an American flag on the outside of her home.

I literally cannot conceive of such a person. This is someone who was CELEBRATING the fact that thousands of children were left without mothers or fathers... that many other thousands lost the loves of their lives... that people suffered indescribably in fire and in terror??

That is a sick person.

Tell us more about her. --I hope you are not friends with this person. I could not be friends with someone so lacking in compassion and humanity.

--Since she so admires the terrorists' actions, perhaps she would like to volunteer herself to be their next victim.

I was at the Phoenix airport yesterday and read a great column by a Muslim leader. Here it is. I suggest all of you highlighting the alledged "condemnations" read this very good piece.

She is an acquaintance, not someone that we regularly communicate with. Last time we crossed paths was in January 2002.

You know, if you were to mention that to her, she would go on and on about U.S. policy and that we used these same organizations to defeat the Russians, the atrocities funded by American policy and that all those people were left without mothers or fathers, etc.

In discussions I can tolerate both extremes. As an example, and folks, don't get all upset, it's just an example. I have little problem sitting between an extreme Christian and an extreme believer in Lucifer and listening to both sides.

Your friends are #ussies!

I invited 10 friends to go, 2 declined, 3 couldn't make it because of money (and I wasn't going to pony up for them).. 5 of us went!

And now you see how this relates to Mulsim extremists!

As I said, there is a difference between believing that U.S. policies contributed to terrorism, and celebrating human suffering.

I am sad to say that several times in my life, I have noticed that the most ardent political activists (some of whose views I agree with) often lack an interpersonal empathy. They are interested in policies and politics, but they do not seem to really feel the suffering of other human beings. In fact, I have seen activists who become very exercised about Palestinian issues or AIDS be quite heartless to those closest to them.

I don't know if this is a common feature of political activists, or if I just met a few bad apples.

It seems to be a common 'feature'.

She would say that we have no empathy for the lives of foreigners.

She's quite a believer in an 'eye for an eye'

Some folks don't decouple the acts from policy.

Chad, your article is similar to the one I mentioned earlier -- the opinion piece in Time magazine, written by a moderate Muslim, in which he argues that Muslims need to face up to the fact that terrorism is a product of Islam and moderate Muslims need to do more to disown the scriptural and doctrinal justifications for such violence.

When Muslims are saying this about their own faith and their own compatriots, it bears paying attention.

Looks like that's his take on the Muslim community. Perhaps it's is so in some parts, and perhaps not in others.

Perhaps this is the education needed by all Muslims and hence why the Mosque should be built, and have Muslims like the author spread the word among the community.
