Thanks matt.  Whole Foods in Roseville is better than nothing.  (I don't like the drive to Sacramento.)

Too bad it's not Folsom, however.  Had it been so, I would have agreed to that wall built around our city, as foothillnative and Ahnold mentioned!

Sacramento Natural Foods is going to be even closer to Folsom. They are going in to Granite Bay, so I don't think Folsom could handle Whole Foods.
I went to Whole Foods recently and it is really nice and quite large. Trader Joes would be forced out of town if Whole Foods came to Folsom. Whole Foods has a much larger selection of items than Trader Joes and seems about 3 times larger.
Maybe Whole Foods will go into Eldorado Hills or Rancho Cordova at some point in the future to serve the Highway 50 area.

One thing I've recently realized I REALLY miss: a bookstore with coffee and BIG comfy chairs that invite you to sit a spell and read! Whether to just peruse books, or get away to study for grad classes, my family and I really miss the 2 story Barnes and Noble we had in AZ. Farley pointed out that no one reads anymore, but bookstores I think could help that by being cool places to hang out. We keep TRYING to do that at Borders, but it's so small, and they have so few chairs, that we never feel like staying very long.

Oh, and how about a place to rent boats and jet skis to use at the lake? Not everyone can afford to buy one...

All this open space and not even a couple of acres for a dog park? tsk tsk! Plenty of room for big houses with no yards though. That's okay...we still love it but dogs are better citizens when they're exhuasted from romping with each other.

Would love a great produce market...how nice to not have to go to a supermarket for fresh produce.

And nice locally owned new/used bookstore would be great for the Old Town area...especially if it featured an adjacent cafe! Totally agree with that idea.

What's taking Mel's so long to be built?!

I wonder.
They have had the coming soon sign for about 2 years now and no sign of construction.

A certified farmers' market.......Well, now we have one!

Starting this Sunday, July 18th, the El Dorado County Farm Trails Association will sponsor a farmers' market each Sunday from 8 am to noon in the parking lot behind the Folsom Chamber of Commerce building (200 Wool Street).

Generally, the produce is fresh and locally grown. The selection is seasonal and is certified to be from California growers. This market is sponsored by the El Dorado Farm Trails (Apple Hill area, I think).

Note: Farmers' market produce is not necessarily organic. (You have to ask the grower about his farming methods.)

I'm curious to see what the selection is like.

How about a municipal rose garden like the one in San Jose? A quiet beautiful place to take your little kids or your elderly mom or just walk and wonder at the beauty of nature?

A Daphnes Greek cafe would be good. There are two in Roseville already.

The "dog park" idea has come up several times, which makes me wonder why we don't insist on having homes with bigger yards. Personally, one of the major factors in our home buying decision was that the house we bought had to have a decent sized backyard. This forced us to make certain compromises, but every time I have company over or play with my dog or watch my daughter run around in the yard I believe we made the right choice. It wasn't very long ago that quarter acre lots were the norm around here (look at American River Canyon for instance). It seems most houses now are being built on .08 to .13 acre lots with virtually no yard at all. I know there's probably nothing that can be done to stop this madness, but I personally would rather see FEWER new homes and businesses and put everything on larger parcels of land. Heck, how 'bout just retaining some wide open space for general public use.
