I do believe that the developers have what they believe are the best interests of Sutter Street at heart.

They have a vision, and that type of store isn't in it.

Perhaps it's time for everyone to stop beating this dead horse--Newsflash, Ms. Teaz lost, game over--
and you could start a new thread to enlighten all of of the rest of us what is to become of Sutter Street.

The worse part of all of this is that the majority of the opposition was instigated by that "other party"... the fat cat with the big bucks who is buying his way into this town come he11 or high water - at anyone's expense who gets in his way. He's the one I keep referring to as "owning" the city council - he greases their palms, they grease his

that person is on this board and I hope he reads this soon - the devious ways he's going about corrupting the ethics and morals of our officials in this town will one day be exposed and I hope he falls hard on his arse - his day will come

wow, who is this all powerful guy and just who has he corrupted? (see my post to Steve)

Mr. Wayswrite

As with all posts, they either die natural deaths from disinterest, or they get shut down by moderators if they become too nasty. This one shows lots of interest and people have been pretty tame in discussing it.

I am not on the Historic District Committee, so I don't know how much I can do to enlighten you, but through newspaper articles, City Council meetings, and this very website, all available to the public, I know thaqt there are plans for new parking, office, retail, housing and restaurant spaces in Old Town, as well as a new 'streetscape' plan to update it, making it more attractive and easier to get around.

If you are truly interested, please consider attending the Historic District Revitalization Committee meeting:

Mar 13th 2006 – Stakeholder meeting

Status updates and community input on:

Short-term Parking Management Plan
Long-term Parking Location Plan

Mar 27th 2006 – Stakeholder meeting

Education session to review Revitalization status and answer questions

Apr 10th 2006 – Stakeholder meeting

Status updates and community input on:

Streetscape improvements
Tenant mix improvements

Apr 24th 2006 – Stakeholder meeting

Status updates and community input on:

Circulation improvements
Safety and Security improvements
Completing bike trail around Lake Natoma
Program update - FY 06/07 plan
Long term Revitalization plan

Appr 25th 2006 – City Council meeting

FY 06/07 & Long Term Revitalization plan presentation

All meetings (except City Council) are:
6:30 PM – Light refreshments and socializing
7:00 – 8:30 PM – Community meeting
Landmark Baptist Church
609 Figueroa Street

As a resident and homeowner in the Historic District I think I can spew my opinion on this issue:

Since the opening of Ms. Teaz I have:
a) Not morally disintegrated
b) Not seen prostitutes on the corner of Decatur and Sutter St.
c) Not witnessed any identifiable child molestors or rapists loitering on or around my property

Actually, I would have to say it's brought a few more people down there, if not just to see the spectacle. I'm happy about that because every dollar they spend is more sales taxes into the revitalization fund smile.gif

Look, I had Ron Jeremy over here a couple days ago, and he said I was an honorable moral man. This was just before we cruised down to the corner of Sutter & Bridge St's to pickup some girls (they're apparently all on the East end of Sutter these days).

No, of course not. But in THIS case, it seems plausible that Ms. Teaz, who is already been in violation of the ordinance, may thumb her nose at the law and continue to sell the prohibited items.

funny... I was surfin ebay for some casters, and ran into this item... which reminded me of all the morals and ethics that keep surfacing on this forum... LOL

A newcomer's perspective:

Being as I'll be moving to Folsom soon I decided to make a visit to the historic area on Sunday. When I saw Ms Teaz I decided to peek through the window to see what all of the controversy was about.

It was a bit dark inside (they were already closed), but nothing that I could see seemed all that shocking. I find the larger than life, full color, posters and manequins at Frederick's and Victoria's in the mall to be much more shocking! Or what about the magazine covers at every checkstand at the grocery store?

Maybe they should sell their more disputed items as "Therapeutic Body Massagers", like a certain health catalog that I've seen mass mailed numerous times since I was a small child. tongue.gif I remember thinking (as a young child) that the shape of those massagers didn't seem to be very effective for massaging the shoulder like in the picture! blush.gif

To be honest, the bar next door bothered me more -- it didn't have a friendly atmosphere IMO. weirdsmiley.gif

You would have had to gone inside the store, not just peak in the window. There's a room in the back that is the basis for a lot of the objection to this store.

Terry

You are right. One would have to go inside to judge, but I think if you polled the people who are opposed to the store, you'd find that the vast majority have never been inside. They judge it without ever seeing what is supposed to be so offensive.

The back room is not as big as our walk-in closet.

Let's have a big ol' book burnin party rite outside a Ms. Teaz's store!

Let's abolish dancing while we're at it. It promotes fornication.

That backroom is also not as big a deal as people make it out to be

its pretty simple, if you're not into it - don't go - but I wish people would someday stop pushing their personal beliefs onto others. Just because some people don't like it doesn't mean its not good for the rest of the world

I can't dance so I am okay with abolishing it.

I agree with you, but isn't the argument of the critics is that it is harmful to others? I don't see how it is but isn't that their argument?
