Sorry everyone, folsom IS as bad if not worse than what people are saying... the few teens left who don't need alcohol or weed at least 3 times a week? they're an endangered species.. honestly, there's nothing anyone can do about it except wait for them to grow out of it (believe it or not we DO grow out of it)
and yes, private schools are just as bad... teens cant escape any of this

They're not an endangered species. Not even close. It shows that you haven't done any research what so ever in stating this. It's rediculous to even say that. I know PLENTY of people at Folsom who don't do it at all and MANY more that don't do it 3 times a week. Have you ever even GONE to Folsom? Or even know ANYONE who goes there? You need to do some serious fact checking. Maybe the people that you know do it 3 times a week, but you're definantly aren't talking the majority here.
Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.

yeah, i only say it because i was one of those people at one time too... it's the 7th thru 10th graders you worry about most, trust me i dont need research, ive seen plenty. more goes on than even fellow teenagers know about. unless you were/are one of the people who do drugs all the time, you don;t know... especially with these days when teens are starting to hide it, people you thought would never do something like that, still seem that way but behind their fiends backs, its different

No, I don't do it & never have. But I have been at the scenes where it has happened. And it's rediculous that you have to worry about 7th graders. They're 12 years old. Pretty sad if that's true. & trust me, my friends wouldn't do that behind my back. I'm not judgemental and people know that. If they want to talk to me about something, they know they can and I'm not going to lecture or anything. There's very few people that would keep things from me. Especially something that is as big of a deal as that.

Not to mention, people brag about it. They're not quiet about it. Not at all. If they were, that would mean that they're embarrassed and addicted. No one will admit that. Not without help.

no, that you said that if people DIDNT brag about it, that would mean they are embarrased and/or addicted. Do you really think that?

I think the most telling comment is "unless you were/are one of the people who do drugs all the time, you don;t know..."

I was at a seminar on teen drug abuse a few years back, when the subject of percentages was brought up. A parent asked if it was true that 70% of Folsom high school students were on drugs. The reply was, "It depends on who you ask"

You see, the kids who don't do drugs tend to hang out with other kids who don't do drugs. They might know of some kids who do, but if you ask them what percent of their peers take drugs, they'd probably claim a small percentage.

On the other hand, with birds of a feather flocking together, the kids who do take drugs generally hang out with other drugies. So, if you ask them what percent of kids are doing drugs, they're likely to respond, 'EVERYBODY!'

I have two co-workers, one went to Folsom High, and is a pretty conservative, clean sort of guy. The other is a former partier. I asked each of them, without telling them why, to think back to high school and estimate the percetage of kids who did drugs.

The former Folsom High guy said "1 to 5 percent". The former partier said, "Probably 50 percent"

When I wass in high school, I was pretty sure 90% of the kids were druggies.

Steve! eek.gif At my high school there were a handful, and everyone knew who they were, including the teachers. You're absolutely right about who you ask, but it also might make a difference in what year you ask them. If you ask a kid in h.s., he might give a very small percentage, and then if you ask him again when he's out of the environment, he might give you a different number. I find kids to be less than honest about questions like that, which is why I think the Healthy Kids Survey has limited use. Some kids are going to be inclined to minimize, and many are going to be inclined to exaggerate to get a rise out of adults. Not reliable, IMHO.
"Sometimes on purpose and sometimes by accident, teachers' unions have a long history of working against the interests of children in the name of job security for adults. And Democrats in particular have a history of facilitating this obstructionism in exchange for campaign donations and votes." . . .Amanda Ripley re "Waiting for Superman" movie.

BINGO! - finally someone with logic! Good post Steve and 100% accurate!

to the doom and gloom people here - you need to expand your circle of friends - maybe if you stopped hanging out with druggies you wouldn't think FHS is full of them.

Well, maybe not addicted. But I do believe that they may be embarassed about it. Maybe. Just my opinion.

I would def shy away from saying addicted, possibly embarassed, but even worried about being caught? simply not feeling the need to discuss their "extra-caricular" activities? there are many possibilities/reasons as to why they do not discuss what they do.

Maybe so. 90% of them talk about it or are known to do it. Folsom's a small town. Everyone hears about it some way or another.

I think that the Forum Moderators know who these teens are, if they are teens, that are posting these messages. We have no way of knowing who they are.

Maybe it is time to send an undercover Narc into the school, unless there is already one in there.

I THINK THERE IS DRUGS AND SEX AND DRINKING NOT ONLY IN FOLSOM BUT ALL SCHOOLS. AND YES SOME PARENTS DON'T LIKE TO ADMIT WHAT THEIR KIDS DO ( NOT MY KID THEY WOULD NEVER DO THAT) AND YET THEIR KIDS ARE THE FIRST IN LINE. DO WHAT I DO WHEN THEY COME HOME, DRUG TEST THEM. YES YOU CAN ORDER THEM ON THE INTERNET EXPECT FOR THE SEX LOL. SOME GIRLS ARE HAVING SEX AT AGE 13 SO MAKE SURE YOU SPEAK TO THEM, BUT THEY WONT TELL YOU, SO YOU PUT THEM ON THE PILL. YOUR SAYING THEIR TO YOUNG TO BE ON THE PILL BUT NINE MONTHS LATER YOU WOULD OF WISH THEY WERE ON IT. I AM NOT SAYING ALL KIDS BUT SIT DOWN AND TAKE A LOOK AT THE KIDS WITH OPEN EYES YOU CAN TELL, LIKE I SAID SOME JUST DON'T WANT TO. sleeping.gif whistle.gif

Okay, so they're not from Folsom. I guess Folsom kids know their limits smile.gif

It's probably because many of the kids at Union Mine have parents that were raised there. Once you get deeper into the hills, the people get a lot different. In Folsom 95%+ of people move here because they have a choice and want a better life for their family.

Hmm, all this may be true, all the high school girls I've talked to so far want me to vote for Angelides. Highly suspicious.
