Why Are We Folsomites So Snobish?

Do you drink wine when others are drinking beer? Both, so as not to insult anyone.
Do you have a gardener or housecleaner? I have no peons on the payroll for any purpose. If you want something done right, you've go to do it yourself.
Do you shop for clothes based on the label? Absolutely, but I thought it was called a price tag. Isn't it kind of snooty to call it a label?
Would you refuse outright to buy anything from a thrift store or garage sale? No, but I would never stop there to look in the first place.
Do you complain about the other customers at Wal-Mart? Yes, the cashiers.
Do you watch foreign films? Sometimes I turn on Spanish captions. Does that count?
Do you belong to a private club that has a membership committee? Cal Fit.
Do you only go to the movie theatre in EDH instead of the one in Folsom? Not "only." We even go to Bradshaw.
Do you regularly buy things from Whole Foods or David Berkeley's? Who are they?

And is the Oak that runs west from Auburn Folsom or the one that Lakeside and Calif. Family Fitness are located on?
In either case there are some pretty nice houses on both sides of both streets. (Man I sound like an ordinary guy instead of one of those stuck-up Folsom elitist snobs).

Of course! But probably not the cheap wine most drink.
Do you have a gardener or housecleaner?
Both. Who else is supposed to clean up and maintain this mansion? Don't be jealous, this is America, capitalist wonderland. You too might be able to afford it one day.
Do you shop for clothes based on the label?
My personal shopper does that for me. I'll ask her next time I see her.
Would you refuse outright to buy anything from a thrift store or garage sale?
*shudder*
Do you complain about the other customers at Wal-Mart?
Walmart? *shudder* Don't shop at Walmart.
Do you watch foreign films?
Yes, preferably the ones with intricate plots that the great unwashed masses of Americans would simply not comprehend.
Do you belong to a private club that has a membership committee?
Several. Some inexpensive like the $65k/yr gold club membership in EDH, but sometimes I enjoy slumming with the poor.
Do you only go to the movie theatre in EDH instead of the one in Folsom?
Theaters? That's for those that can't afford 100' home theater displays.
Do you regularly buy things from Whole Foods or David Berkeley's?
Only when I'm slumming
So what's my score? Hopefully good, wouldn't want to be one of those Folsom snobs people keep talking about.
Do you lease a luxury car because you couldn't afford the payments had you purchased it? (Doesn't apply to those leasing for tax/business reasons.)
Leases, like renting, are for the poor. No, I buy all of our luxury vehicles outright.
Do you only associated with people who belong to your club/church/live in your upscale neighborhood?
Unfortunately, our neighborhood, while it has its doctors and lawyers, it also has the trailer trash crowd that just happened to get lucky in real estate and make enough money to live in neighborhoods they don't belong in.
Do you use or believe in the the phrase "Other side of Oak Avenue?"
What's on the other side? Never heard this phrase before.
Have you ever said to your spouse, "Well, I just have to get XYZ because XYZ has it too."
No, usually we have it all first. Then others ask us advice on what to buy.
Do you keep up with the Joneses? "Mr. X just got a 50" flat screen, must be time to upgrade myself."

50" is the common people's screen. I would barely be able to see that from our couch 40' away.
Do regularly talk or speculate about how much money people make? (Including yourself.) Do you introduce people with their profession attached to their name?
If you mean on particular projects or investments, yes. Yes, I introduce Dr. X as Dr. X, unlike you, he has earned that distinction.
Do you look up to those with high-paying white collared job and look down upon those with lower-paying blue collar jobs?
Who cares about collars? It's about socioeconomic class and standing. There are plenty of so called, "Blue collar" people with a higher socioeconomic standing than so called, "white collar" people. A "blue collar" contractor that heads a contracting company and is worth millions is certainly more on par than a "white collar" accountant making $40k/yr.
Does the sight of a pick-up truck in your neighborhood make you bristle?
I can honestly say, "no", it doesn't. It makes me shudder.
Would you rather have a BMW parked in your neighbor's driveway than a pick-up truck, assuming they are similar condition and age?
Is there really any difference between a BMW and a pick up truck nowadays. Any Joe blow can lease a BMW. First they'd have to get into the gated community.
Do you pity people who live in apartments?
No. Just a realization that not all are wealthy. Some must live in apartments and houses.
Do you think you're "better" than people who live in Rancho/Sacramento/Antelope?
Generally, yes. Though there are some wealthy people that live in those communities as well.
Do you not shop at Winco because of the customers?
Winco? What's a Winco? Bel Air is as low as I'll go. Fortunately, our personal shopper takes care of ensuring that our pantry is well stocked.
Now can we get back to bashing those snobs? They really get to me sometimes.

Really.. groceries are groceries. What and how you do with them is what makes a meal fit for a king.
While I agree that Trader Joes can be a tad trendy, and groceries are groceries, there are some exceptions.
I found basil at Raley's for $3 a bunch, and at Trader Joe's, you get twice as much for half the price. A jar of roasted red peppers, I think was $4.89 at Safeway, $1.79 at Trader Joe's.
Winco consistently whips the majors on prices.

Raley's is for suckers, that place charges way too much.

Do you drink wine when others are drinking beer?
Only if it's beer I can't stand.
Do you have a gardener or housecleaner?
If it's going to be done right, you have to do it yourself, or nag your husband to death until it's done right.

Do you shop for clothes based on the label?
Nope, based on the price tag.
Would you refuse outright to buy anything from a thrift store or garage sale?
Depends on the item. But I probably wouldn't ever go out of my way to shop at a thrift store or garage sale.
Do you complain about the other customers at Wal-Mart?
I hate Wal-Mart and only go there when I need fabric and trimmings since Target doesn't sell those. It's the disorganization of the store and rude employees, not the other customers.
Do you watch foreign films?
Yup. Mostly Spanish and South American films because my hubby speaks Spanish and lived for 2 years in Chile.
Do you belong to a private club that has a membership committee?
The Empire Ranch Homeowners Association.
Do you only go to the movie theatre in EDH instead of the one in Folsom?
Yup. But that's because it's more convenient to our location.
Do you regularly buy things from Whole Foods or David Berkeley's?
Never heard of them.

How about these questions that nobody needs to answer on here. Just answer them in your head.
Do you lease a luxury car because you couldn't afford the payments had you purchased it? (Doesn't apply to those leasing for tax/business reasons.)
Haha! We live here because it's convenient to hubby's office, shopping, etc and we can get by with only one car. We purchased our car despite not being able to afford the payments

Do you only associated with people who belong to your club/church/live in your upscale neighborhood?
Nope, we're loners, reclusive and don't associate with anyone because people in general just piss us off

Do you use or believe in the the phrase "Other side of Oak Avenue?"
Where is Oak Ave again?
Have you ever said to your spouse, "Well, I just have to get XYZ because XYZ has it too."
Nope. We get what we want/need because we want/need it, not because someone else has it.
Do you keep up with the Joneses? "Mr. X just got a 50" flat screen, must be time to upgrade myself."
Haha. We can't afford to keep up with the Joneses and we aren't deluded enough to try.
Do regularly talk or speculate about how much money people make? (Including yourself.) Do you introduce people with their profession attached to their name?
Nope
Do you look up to those with high-paying white collared job and look down upon those with lower-paying blue collar jobs?
Certainly not. It's a person's personality that makes me look up or down at them.

Does the sight of a pick-up truck in your neighborhood make you bristle?
The one parked across the street at my neighbor's house has been useful on a few occasions.
Would you rather have a BMW parked in your neighbor's driveway than a pick-up truck, assuming they are similar condition and age?
Only if it's a nice sporty model and they will take me for a ride on occasion.
Do you pity people who live in apartments?
Not at all. I lived in apartments for the better part of my 20's and I know how hard it is to break into the housing market here in CA.
Do you think you're "better" than people who live in Rancho/Sacramento/Antelope?
Only better than some people in certain areas, like my last neighborhood full of drug dealers and junkies. LOL!
Do you not shop at Winco because of the customers?
Winco isn't convenient. Bel Air is, although Costco is where we do 90% of our shopping.
So how did I do? Am I officially not a snob now that I'm older and wiser and have lived through the "hard knocks" of one-income living in CA for 10 years?

Hey, some of us are just busy trying to keep up with the other threads! I think Paris Hilton is turning into a huge, open sore even as I type.....but back to the subject...
You might still have a tinge of snobby around the edges...but you mostly sound like a born-again non-snob to me! Welcome to the fray................
