I want juvenile court law to be implemented - the law clearly states that non violent, first time offenders should receive "rehabilitative" consequences...not punitive. I hope the Judge will consider the facts of this case as they are and not as the media or others have spun it and keep politics out of his decision...but rather balancing what is in the best interests of JUSTICE and the young men and what they will bring back into society when their sentence is over.

I want them to spend 3 years in the CYA, mainly to send a message to other reckless, careless, young punks on the roads these days who endanger our lives and safety as if driving is some kind of video game. soapbox.gif If we don't hammer 'em, then others won't get the message, and the death, destruction, and carnage will continue. We have to start somewhere, folks, and this is the perfect place to start...with these "wonderful young men" who, through their willful, wanton, egregious disregard for the safety of others, killed a wife and mother (was she a grandma, too?). I won't be happy until we start to get tough on these clods who have no regard for your life or mine. soapbox.gif

Kids could careless about seeing other peers go to jail!!! But I guess since you can so clearly indentify with them that jail just fixes everything right....thats why the return rate of juveniles is 80% or higher right?...according to your theory they would have learned from their buddies or the first time they were incarcerated...you have absolutely no clue and as you put it will be very UNSATISFIED AND UNHAPPY for a LONG time!!! Typical middleaged barbarian man!!!

Which is why I was saying it is also a blind corner... It is hard to see people who are going 45 never mind if they go faster!

Absolutely agree with you.

So is it reasonable to think the victim "should" have seen the boys based upon where they were when she pulled out? If indeed its reasonable to think the victim should have been able to see the boys and NOT pulled out, then I want to focus on exactly how fast were they going?

In my mind the faster they were going, the harsher the punishment. If they were truly going 90 mph, that shows a blatant disregard for others and the most severe sentence should be issued. If they were going 70 mph, these actions too needs to be punished, but sadly way too many others drive this speed every day on this road, so I don't support throwing them into the dungeons of the CYA at this speed.

I'm very skeptical that they were going 90 mph and that the impact was at 70 mph, as people don't walk away uninjured from an accident where they hit something head on at 70 mph!

Why were the street racing charges dropped or never pursued? I can't believe a DA in this high profile case would simply let that slip away if there was any possibility of conviction.

There has alwasy been something troubling to me about the way this case has been protrayed to the public.

I think she was attempting to equate a driver during rush hour traffic, (allegedly) obeying traffic laws, not having enough time to stop for a pedestrian who (allegedly) illegally steps out in front of him to two teenagers who are (allegedly) street racing and slam into and kill a woman who was trying to (allegedly) legally pull out of a parking lot.

I could be wrong though.

No, you got it right. Except one thing. Those who are screaming they want blood would say that regardless of the fact that the man was jaywalking--the driver has full responsibility of the vehicle and deserves to go to jail, right?

There are a few accidents not involving alcohol or drugs in which the victime is a true victim- but for the majority of other accidents out there--all parties involved have helped to create the accident.

Hey- I should know--I just had to take another mandatory online defensive driving course--through the military. The statistics are not structured to take blame away from the person who is speeding but rather the course showed how the actions of people who have certain attitudes helps to create tragic events. Like the guy who doesn't like motorcycles and won't yield to one. Or the middleaged woman driving home from work who doesn't like the looks of the teens at the corner and doesn't yield to them-while walking. Or the older gentleman who doesn't like the sound of that booming stereo in the teenagers car and wants to teach them a lesson by pulling out in front of them, suddenly. ("giving them a scare will teach them a lesson, won't it?")

Yeah--I know--some people think its BS--but the thing is--how many of you have stero types for drivers? How many of you change your "normal" driving habits when around a stereotype?

I'm not saying the boys didn't do something wrong. And I'm not trying to lay the blame on the teacher. All I'm saying is that if there is another part to this story--we should listen. And all of us should try to understand and learn from this tragedy. And I can only hope that people who do have teens out there will be a little more selective in handing the keys over--until they are certain their kids are not quite so aggressive and a little more defensive in their driving habits.

I don't believe what FF said about a so-called video from Applebee's that allegedly shows Susan being reckless. It's just another last-ditch attempt by friends of the "nice boys", and frankly, it's disgraceful. Say hello to the CYA, boys. Enjoy. That's exactly where you belong.

I hope there are a few openings at the CYA, folks. Let's fill 'em up. The sooner the better. If kids insist on NOT behaving properly in society, well, we need to lock 'em up until they do. It's quite a simple concept, actually. It's called DISCIPLINE !!! Look it up. rawdeal.gif

I want to know how and why you have your mind made up already. Is it fact because you heard it on the news?

no, he just wants to come on here and run naked through the street.... make people roll their eyes, and when that doesn't bother them, he takes the torch from the Olympic runner and makes everyone mad!

How do know the teacher? Were you a friend or relative or .....?

Interesting that you are calling her by her first name. Maybe that's what this is all about. If that is the case--I'm sorry for her loss--but I still don't think that sending kids to CYA for this is right. I'm not saying the boys shouldn't or don't deserve punishment but also wonder--why is there so much anger in your posts? Don't you think that whatever the judge does is gonna be nothing compared to what these two boys must live with-for the rest of their lives?

ChipShot and banana - You are free to make an informed opinion on this case and share it here just like everyone else. How informed are you are on the facts?

Ok, we all agree that the boys were speeding and got in an accident and someone died.

Starting from there give me 10 other facts that you know about the case.
