That doesn't make sense. Lake Natoma is in the city, but that's a State Park. As is the PowerHouse. If they have parking problems, you'd take that up with the appropriate agency. RT is a Regional issue, funded by county taxes. Just because it crosses into Folsom City borders, does not make it Folsom City Councils problem. The city wanted (asked for) dual tracks and parking structures, but RT cut the budget to one line and parking lots. The city promoted the concept in spite of a lot of naysayers saying nobody would use it, and as you stated above the city was right! From what I saw, they pushed like he// to get Light Rail into town, only to be under-funded by RT on a tight budget. No amount of city complaining is suddenly going to make RT have more money to build parking garages and a second line. RT has stated that they are surprised by the ridership numbers, and excited to extend service hours and trains into the city, but I can only assume they're still working out the budget numbers of how to make that possible. In short; the city asked for it, got partial, asked for more, and it's now RT's problem to deliver. It's not the city's job to solve RT's parking problem.

I say the city spend some tax dollars to find a solution for us RT riding Folsom residents…. If I wanted more trains or double tracking I would go after RT… We want parking places -- the city can arrange that, the city councel shoudl answer to it's resedents….
Of course the city is going to do a study of RT ridership… I.E. See we are doing something (while doing nothing)… It's RT's fault!!!! I don't buy it…. The city council with a little creative thinking can solve this problem…. They seem to be hesitant because they (like always) seem to be in the one "developers" back pockets… I have got news, I bet there are at least 1,000 Folsom light rail riders -- that is a lot of voters…
Light-Rail usage:
All the trains I ride are standing room only after the station at the outlets. I ride anywhere from 6:00Am to 7:30AM depending on what is going on at work…. By 7:30 all the parking in all the main city lots is gone… Folks are parking on the street, risking towing by parking in other lots, etc… And the commute is not yet done….
Have any light rail riders ever considered riding their bikes to the station to help reduce their parking problems?
...just an idea .. and a much quicker solution then waiting on the city to build/designate more parking just for light rail users.

I disagree... It is not just RT's parking problem..... It is also the cities... Families all over Folsom are obviously dealing with some sever economic hardships that are causing us to use public transit in droves... As RT riders are tax paying and voting Folsom residents we demand the most local of government agencies do something about it… From a government responsibility perspective it may not be “Fair” – It just is…..
Equating the need for RT parking with Lake Natoma (sp) parking is like comparing apples and oranges. The one is a nice to have, the other has become a necessity of life.
How to do a Win/Win:
This would be an opportunity for all players to become heroes in the eyes of the public:
Make some parking places at Glen and downtown hove and prominent signs to say something like:
“XYZ properties (development), Sprint, and the City of Folsom are banding together to help Folsom residents in these tight times, and also improve the environment -- by providing these parking spaces for use by Light rail riders for the next 2 years. During that time we are going to figure out long term solutions (with or without RT’s help).

I like this thinking. I do not ride LR, but it does seem very dumb to send people a few stops down to Hazel to park when there are empty spaces right next to the station. I also like the idea of bicycling to the station if that is an option for people.

Just get to the lot earlier, et voila! all the parking you will ever need is available. It doesn't take a city council resolution to set your alarm earlier.
OK, I admit I am being a bit facitious, but you are not entitled to a parking spot, and it is not MY problem you can't find one. And you are trying to make it MY problem by attempting to get me to pay for a bigger lot (via city funds).
Sounds to me like a business opportunity. Someone with some land down there can lay down some stripes and put in a cashier's window. Problem solved, no government involved.

I have to agree with you completely on all of this. Well said dude!
But I also think this could maybe be an opportunity for the city (?) - setup the parking and charge riders a small fee ($3-$4) to park in the structure from 6am to 5pm - any later then 5pm and additional fees or penalty's will apply. That will give LT riders the parking spaces needed, and it would help the city pay for the parking structure and maintenance. (just an idea...)
now if the riders complain about a small fee to park all day - too bad!, life is not all about them - what would be next? demanding the city send a limo to pick them up and drive them to the station too?

Would you have felt better if the theives hadn't been African American?
Did you report the theft?
How do you know they came in on light rail? People have been stealing from the Outlets long before light rail came along.
I find it difficult to believe that there were people walking through the Outlets, drinking 40's, and panhandling. Did you report that?
Since you call your self #1 drunk, I can only assume that you were when you witnessed the events, and/or when you wrote this post.
