Lake Natoma Crossing... crosses Lake Natoma. Kinda annoying to say, but it makes sense.
Folsom Lake Crossing... crosses... uhh.. Lake Natoma? The American River?

Please, not all the so called leaders are stupid or arrogant. I am not stupid or arrogant (high IQ and I post here and respond to email s and phone calls). I was strongly in favor of naming the bridge after Johnny Cash and I talked to a lot of people about it, explaining my reasoning - his influence on the name recognition we have, and a bunch of other reasons that I talked about here and at the Council meeting. I want to thank those of you who voted for Johnny Cash on this website and to those who chose a different name. I am disappointed that my colleagues on the Council are so short sighted. This was a big mistake for attracting tourists and for national recognition for the City - good national press is hard to come by. I do want to thank Andy for supporting Johnny Cash initially. I have been the lone wolf on the City Council for so long - it feels good when I get support for something every now and then.
Thank you again for those who spoke up on your choice - even if you disagreed with me.
Color me unhappy with the choice the council made - and for my next trick, I need to write a letter of apology to the Cash family - I may refer to this site - though I probably don't need to since John mentioned it tonight
kerri
Kerri - you rock! Thanks for trying to get a good recognizable name for that bridge and thank you for always staying in contact with the citizens of Folsom. I often feel you are the ONLY one on city council who truly listens to people and cares about citizen concerns.
Too bad we're stuck now with an incredibly lame and INCORRECT name for that bridge. It's embarrassing that such a dumb name was chosen, do those guys know what "crossing" means? ...and that the bridge does not even cross Folsom lake?

Did your colleagues authorize you to contact the Cash family to pursue this or did you do this on your own? Who authorized you to ask the Cash family if they would attend the ground breaking?
I sure hope the letter apology is from you, for all the shennigans you created AGAIN and not on behalf of the city because this was all your doing and not the city's!
Kerri, I will agree you have a high IQ, its too bad you use to be so divisive. Those in the know understand why you aren't Mayor, because its stunts like this where you mislead people and sucker people into getting involved.

Wow, Robert. I have NEVER disagreed with you. But ABOUT THIS I DO.
I am glad she did all of that. I would sign the letter of apology with you KERRI!

Great song, my whole family used to call my brother Sue after that song came out. He was a scrappy dude!

Wow Robert, got a little bit of hatred built up for Kerri or what??
Do you blame Kerri for everything that goes wrong?

yeah, Kerri was in this all by herself - all of us were faking our support for the Johnny Cash name too

you guys amaze me with your negativity and crapping in every thread that doesn't appeal specifically to you
if you don't like it - go away

And as much as some of you boys stand and taunt each other--the thing is--none of you are more righteous than the other. The three of you have been nasty to each other for quite a while. It's gotten old.
The other question I wanted to ask: How can the city not have chosen something completely different, when it is apparent that the city jumped into this: without really taking the bridge naming really serious. Why didn't they at least consider scouring through old historical files and find a moment or name in history that could be a positive reflection of our town?
Kerri--I totally didn't like the idea of naming the bridge after Johnny Cash--But at least you didn't go behind the backs of your constituents and slap a surprise on the table and vote immediately for it. I appreciate the fact that even if your ideas are different--you stick to your guns.
Don't consider last night a loss--I see the colors of those who surround and lead--and now they aren't quite so bright.

What a wasted opportunity. Someone earlier said to simply call it what we want. Sounds like a good idea.

man what a stupid name....
For god's sake... no one in 20 years is going to remember who was behind the building of this bridge... and like many posters before me... I call the Lake Natoma Crossing..."the new bridge"... and it would have gotten us a lot of National Press to have named the bridge after Johnny Cash....
One of the things I remember going through Steamboat Springs, Colorado in 1990, was that they had a sense of humor... they had two bridges... one was called "The James Brown Soul Center of the Universe Bridge" and the other was just named "Bob"...
Johnny Cash Expressway would have been cool... really cool... and we'd have all gotten a chuckle each and everytime we went over the bridge... but now...? it's just a bridge..
Yea I think Steve Miklos and Starsky have just been on the stinking council for too long...and I'm dissappointed in Andy Morin.. and have been a long time...
---
Steve has been on the City Council (FOREVER) He has his followers and they will never vote him off....

Me, too, and I'll be singing "A Bridge Named Sue," in my head as I drive across (or out loud with the windows rolled up).
You can also pass along my apologies for the Boyz' decision to the Cash family, Kerri.
It was the whole city council that put the bridge-naming contest before the residents, not just Kerri. It was only four councilmembers that decided to scrap the four top finalists and give the bridge a name of their own choosing. So why all the venom-spewing at Kerri?

1.) Hey we got a new bridge...THE JOHNY CASH BRIDGE!?!
2.) There is something called Orange Blossom in Natomas.
3.) Howell and Giamotti have some deep personal issues that prevent them from co-existing.
4.) Howell is somewhat of a rebel, in a good way (although boasting a high IQ always makes me uneasy).
5.) Folks in Folsom have some very odd naming issues;
a.) Folsom Lake is behind a dam (i.e. a constantly moving lake)
b.) LAKE Natomas is really the washout from the dam (typically I would call this a river? Doesn't it have a current to it?)
c.) When did a bridge become a crossing? Seems to be mostly a Folsom thing though as they don't have the Bay Crossing or the Golden Gate Crossing?
d.) American River Canyon from all appearances appears to be on a hill? Isn't a "canyon" typically a piece of land surrounded by higher land?
6.) Politicians are the same wherever you go. The representation of the people is secondary to the "circle of friends" in direct contact with the people in power. It may be the people that cast the votes, but its readily acceptable to believe that people are stupid. People will remember a billboard more readily than a history of votes that are contrary to their wishes or best interest....and during a campaign, the "circle of friends" are more likely to pay for a billboard than the ignorant masses.
