I had a feeling this was coming. I've gone there several times over the years for lunch. The last time I went, they started doing what every place does when they are a couple months from failing: prices increase and quality decreases. Why people that run restaurants think this will work is beyond me.
Anyway, I heard a rumor that they are looking to possibly re-open in Folsom or Roseville. I'm guessing either the old Black Angus or Malabar buildings for Folsom. Malabar being the more fitting building, but Black Angus being a better location.

I thought I read a post on this site a few months ago. I was thinking it was Roseville when I saw it on the news last night.

Other signs of a place's impending demise;
* The clientele changes from families and grown folk to youngsters with baggy pants or mohawks
* The bar changes from a sports lounge to a dance club
* Instead of a great place to grab a bite and watch a game, it becomes a great place to get in a fight
* Cops have to camp outside
If this describes your place, you are going out of business. That's just what happened to Yager's before they went under.

the owner told me a while back it was a tough location, main business is the lunch crowd from Intel but that was it, and with the rent being over $6000 a month there, it can be a struggle... I hope they're not gone, they just got signed up for restaurant.com so hopefully that will help bring in some biz... maybe that truck was for a nearby business?
There is a remote possibility that Manderes may be moving there next year..
dang, they'd been around for a long time at several locations - heck their sign is still up at their original location near SaveMart

Yep, that's exactly what happened to Yagers and look where it got them - out of business. Fortunately the new owners of Yagers 727 seem much smarter then the last owner

I agree, its completely nuts that landlords are charging such high prices for rents out here. I think I heard the rents in the buildings near Malabar are around 10 grand a month... even a big name place like Malabar couldn't make it... you'd think that would make the landlords wake up and adjust their prices to actual market value - but I guess they'd rather have empty buildings then have businesses in them ?

I can imagine that there is some tax game they play. An empty building = losses and tax write offs. An occupied (albeit below "market" value) building brings initial income that may then have to be spent later evicting a tenant, and not as much to write off...
Funny thing is, I had an awesome idea for a restaurant in the Safeway center. I researched the viability of it, franchise fees, etc. Then I called to find out about renting the location that had been Mr. Kebeb / Arzi's Greek Grill...I actually laughed when they told me the amount...

I'm no expert, but I don't think the write-offs could possibly be more advantageous than rent.
I know a lot of landlords, and I don't know a single one who'd prefer write-offs to cash in his pocket.
It is puzzling to me, however, when I hear business owners tell me that they can't afford their places and that the landlords refuse to negotiate, and then the place ends up empty.
