Hi All!

We got the ruling in the mail today. The judgment was for us ... the plaintiffs ... in the amount of $505.00 plus the $81.00 in court costs. I finally feel like justice has prevailed.

For those of you catching up ... we received our $500 free gas certificate in August, 2008 from Bassett Furniture after buying $4,300 worth of dining room furniture. After the Florida company went under we were forced into the second program and took the $500 in free groceries. After that company went bankrupt and the offer was another voucher or we could have spent $2000 in the store to get $500 off ... we filed in small claims court on July 7. Court before the judge was October 8. And as I just stated ... he ruled in our favor!

We're leaving for a camping trip but if there are any questions or comments we'll be back on Sunday.

Alright!!! Congratulations!!! I plan on filing one next week against Becks if I don't get something from myfreetravel by then. Was this a Sacramento county court?

Still no rebate today. Contacted my free travel, they said it will be in my mailbox by the 20th. If it is not I'm going to return my merchandise and if I can't do that I will be going to small claims court. Sick of this.

Attempting to return the merchandise would be interesting. I'd like to see how they handle it - and how the original deal was done.

I'd have to think that if I went to buy, say a television, that was supposed to come with a $500 rebate and I could not get the rebate, for whatever reason - then I didn't get what I bargained for. Frankly, I wouldn't waste my time with something like this - because it sounds like a scam (and probably is) - but if it entices someone to buy - it's part of the bargain.

I'm sure the promotion provided plenty of business to Beck's . . . calculated risk?

Did they tell you when it was sent? Have you checked groceryrebate.net? I still haven't gotten through to myfreetravel and groceryrebate.net still says "Visa Card in Process."

P.S. another empty mail box...

Definitely a calculated risk... That's why they are running the promotion again. They figure any loss will be outweighed by the gain in business.

As for returning the merchandise. I'm not doing that... I am going to do everything I can to make them follow through with the commitment they made with me in February.

I had already decided never to buy furniture from Becks after their poor service with my couch cushions (they didn't do anything). I'll for sure never buy anything from them after reading this thread.

jmreed97 - We live in Indiana and the case was filed in Indianapolis.

Unfortunately for the thousands of people who lost out by accepting the certificates from the first two companies I don't think it sounds like this third one is going to be able to fulfill its obligations either. It just does not make economic sense and I sincerely hope those businesses who gave them away and/or sold them learn a valuable lesson after this is over.

Another day, another empty mail box...

Went to check out the My Free Travel BBB page and discovered it's down because the BBB is changing it. I wonder if it will go from no rating to F rating... That would be just great.

FYI ... the writer for the St. Petersburg Time in Florida who has written several articles on the free gas/grocery voucher program wrote this yesterday:

http://www.tampabay....voucher/1045280

My wife, who actually filed the claim, did all the research, and presented the case in Small Claims Court, quoted and referenced several of Ivan Penn's articles in her statement to the court.

Thanks for the story!!! I decided to email it to Laura Francisco (the Beck's customer service manager) as a warning about the liability they continue to expose themselves to as a result of this ongoing free grocery promotion.

The link above wasn't loading properly so I found it at the link below.
