Naming of public structures/parks should be based upon some honor rather some opportunity to sell something. I would hope we as a community aren't going to lower ourselves into doing things just so we can get something out of it. I always thought Folsom had more class than that!

More class than who? Chicago's Cellular Field (Comiskey), Indianapolis's RCA Dome (Hoosier Dome), New York's Giants Stadium (Meadowlands), Denver's Coors field, Chicago's Wrigley Field? It's a BRIDGE!? And what are we selling??? Folsom!?! Gosh Bob, I hope you own a business of some sort because I would love to work with someone that doesn't do things "just so he can get something out of it." Holy crap, that makes no sense at all. Cavemen clubbed mammoths to eat, Catholics pray for salvation, and I work to feed my family!?! So what? Never mind, I will repeat...A.) Folsom Lake Crossing is an emberassingly STUPID name. and B.) People around the world know Folsom for the prison and Johny Cash. PERIOD!!

Kerri knows she can be a pain but that's why people like her. She doesn't care.

Anyway, my personal opinion: focus on Eric King. Sounds like we have Andy and Kerri on board. Eric may sway his thoughts if he feels there is enough public support. Email him, call him. Keep up the letter to the press, they keep eating it up.

Starsky and Miklos, I don't think there's a prayer they will change their mind. I almost get the impression that the more resistance they get, the more they convince themselves that they are doing the right thing. Don't even try.

I see in the old bee today in the bob walter column quotes Eric King "only a vocal minority was opposed to the folsom lake crossing" "the city council is not going to reconsider the name"

my daddy once said the only thing worse than being stupid, was being stupid and stuborn

vision this....the boys on the council are cobra snakes and they are swaying to the misic of the flute playing snake charmer, former mayor steve in a turbon.

like the old 60 radicals said "power to the people"

So are the around 30 business in Folsom with the name Folsom Lake stupid too? Their business is not on Folsom Lake. In my opinion it's a celebration of the area, not name calling stupid. Also, the field names are marketing efforts by companies. Johnny Cash is not marketing himself by paying for the bridge. A better analogy for the Johnny Cash bridge could be Jack Kemp Folsom Community Center or Mike's Golden Spike Saloon.

For more about Johnny Cash and his Folsom Prison Blues (Crescent City Blues) see Reno's claim to the song at http://www.newsrevie...tent?oid=690173.

A bridge is an object, like a restaurant or auto dealership. I would be okay with Folsom Lake Bridge. "Crossing" is a verb. To cross. Folsom Lake Crossing should therefore "cross" Folsom Lake. It does not.

For example: Folsom Lake Ford doesn't "Ford" Folsom Lake. It is the "Ford (dealership)" *near* Folsom Lake.

I've been to Japan, Africa, Europe, and over half of the US. Most people ask me about Arnold or Ronald (if you like puzzles, see that the names have the same letters), not Johnny Cash. Those I speak to that know of the prison, ask me if Folsom is a scary place to live. So promoting a prison icon I don't know would be such a family-friendly or business-friendly decision. I know this will go over well in this forum... how about renaming the bridge the Reagan Memorial Bridge and below the Governator Gulch? They've been to Folsom, and people all over the world ask me about them. tongue.gif Just being farcical about the name.

Quick thought... does Lake Natomas Crossing actually cross Lake Natomas? Per the Thomas Guide on page 280, Lake Natomas goes from Nimbus Dam to the bend, then it's the American River. Per BLM (Bureau of Land Management), Negro Bar (which is by this bridge) is on the American River. Do we now have two bridges named for waters they don't cross? If anyone can intelligently answer, please do.

----

I contacted the Mayor and city council members today and suggested that it be called the
Folsom Lake By-Pass, at least it would not be a crossing and it does actually by-pass the lake.
(If it can't named after Johnny Cash).

A VETERAN Whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount "up to and including their life". That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -Author unknown-

"What exactly has she done to warrant a recall?"

Ducky, I missed this part in your post in response to mine.

There seems to be some on here who feel GW should be impeached for misleading the public. I'm assuming they would feel the same about any elected official IF that person was misleading the public.

make that a committee of TWO, I'm with you on this Cal

IF there was a recall started, I'd wait and weigh the facts and try and make an informed choice before deciding what to do. I can respect that not everybody does things the way I do.

Since you volunteer at the city, I'm serious about getting your help trying to find that RFP where the city sold land next to the HS. Anything you or ANYONE can do would be greatly appreciated?

Reagan and Arnie will put Folsom on the tourist map......people will go to Southern California to get their Reagan or governator fix....don't think Reagan family will come for the opening ceremonies...and even if they, the media would not...'coz they don't follow Reagans even now. While media does follow Arnie and family, but, not sure if they'd be here

Johnny Cash is indeed the biggest name that can be truly linked to Folsom...apart from the Menendez brothers (of Southern California). And their family would be here....

I said many, many posts ago that this Council was too stubborn and egocentric to backtrack and admit they blew the name thing and change it.

The only thing to do now is get revenge.
I have opinions, you have opinions. We'll just call it even...is that OK ??

Can you answer the question without diverting the attention to our president?

I answered the question. If one felt misleading the public is grounds for impeachment, wouldn't that be grounds for a recall as well?
