Great post blade, that one i'm sure made all of folsom high proud smile.gif
It's great to see that most parents on here are actually listening to the answers they asked for!
Sure, a bit of name-calling and downright stupid things were said.
But hey, its an online thread. Thats bound to happen, right? tongue.gif

Oh, and one more thing.
I just went and visited my first choice college today, met with current students and talked with them.
I am proud to say that the future is bright smile.gif

I'm from L.A. - that place makes San Diego look like Beverly Hills by comparison

and yeah, I know dancing has changed over the years, me personally I don't have a problem with the freak dancing - but as you can see, a ton of people do have issues with it because of the sexuality involved, that tends to make the parents of daughters very nervous.... understandably, you gotta realize some of us parents really care about the well being of our children and we worry about early pregnancy and all that scary stuff... and yeah I'll admit most of the time its just paranoia on our part

I'm sure I drove my parents nuts too with the crazy stuff I did - anyone who claims they were perfect angels when they were kids are bold faced liars

thank you for this response davburr. It's not that we're trying to be jerks about anything but this whole thing did kinda start to turn into a "witch hunt" like you mentioned. Parents always think things that their kids do are questionable. I mean come on, I even worry about my little sister who's a sophomore at Vista. I may not want her to freak with a bunch of guys at her homecoming but I really can't stop her or tell her not to cause then I'd be a hypocrite! Occasionally we all do something or another that an adult might disapprove of but at least 90% of the time we're pretty darn good kids.

We try, honestly we do try to be good...most of the time smile.gif

Yep.

A punkish society where the inmates (punk, know-it-all kids) seem to run the asylum. And parents just throw-up their hands in defeat.

If I had talked that way when I was a kid, I'd have been knocked from here to Wednesday by my parents and/or peers.

If these kids are any indication, the future is dim. thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

And you know what else, my parents raised me the same way cause I grew up on the East Coast for most of my life.

But dude it's the 21st Century...I'll be the last one to say kids are perfect "prodigys" but we're not dumb either. And the whole rule of "be seen and not heard" really can't apply anymore cause kids aren't restricted to what they hear at home. TV, internet, friends, and yes even family sometimes influence kids and as someone who has seen both sides of the spectrum I can honestly say that kids are not all that bad and most are pretty darn mature.

But you need to treat them like young adults, not little kids.

nicely said adam.

i like how the second i stop being belligerent everybody else starts =)

oh well. If y'all wanna think that, and not respond when we try to explain things, that's fine. But like i said. Admittedly, there have been some belligerent posts by people my age, and thats alright. But don't read those and ignore the calmer ones, (like mine on top of the page.)

Or, for entertainment value, you could read my angry ones too. laugh.gif

again, read the rational ones, adults, and please respond. Let us know your RATIONAL concerns, opinions etc.

haha i tried to be rational with my first response to normajean bro but apparently nobody cared so I decided bashing was little more fun. I guess I can stop now seeing as we seem to have brought a few adults onto our side that actually believe us and WANT to listen to what we have to say.

See you on monday broseph.

I am a senior at Folsom High School and I would just like to get my opinion in before this thread gets completely out of hand yet again.

1. There was a couple caught having sex under the bleachers at the '05 Homecoming. The bleachers are no longer pulled out at dances.

2. I rarely left the dance floor at the '08 Homecoming and I was frequently both in the middle and on the outside. Yes, I was not everywhere at once to tell you for a fact that sex was not happening, but I never saw anything of the sort and neither did anyone I have talked to. Sure, I have not talked to everyone and maybe someone saw something...or maybe it was only a rumor.

3. Yes, people feak dance. Yes, on the back of the dance ticket it said "freaking is out". But the teachers at the dance cannot stop all of it, it is not their fault. Yes, I have freak danced, does that make me a bad person? That is your opinion. Is freak dancing sex? NO.

4. Those that have said "I weep for future generations"...I would like to address that more prominently than anything else. Have you attended Folsom High School, interacted with the students, and observed our acedemics? First, Folsom High School is a wonderful school to attend. Yes, there are drugs and alcohol and other unsafe behaviors, but that is such a small percent of students compared to those who are aspiring for higher goals. Second, Folsom High School has some of the highest test scores not only in California, but in the entire country. Our jazz band is Number One in the nation. We have a great amount of AP and Honors programs, and I am proud to say that I have taken many and am presently taking two AP courses this year, and many other schools cannot give their students these acedemic opportunities like Folsom can. Last, I would like to explain the "future generation" for the adults on this forum and explain that you have no need to worry. I am an officer for BRO, Bulldogs Reaching Out. It is a club full of students who want to make a difference in younger students' futures. We go to elementary and middle schools and inform those students about the dangers of alcohol, drugs, and violence and how they can make smart decisions in their present and future (because believe it or not, we have 5th graders asking us what to do when their parents try to force them to smoke weed). I am extremely proud of being apart of a club that can make a difference and I know we already are. There are other clubs like JSA (Junior Statesmen of America) where I have seen the next leaders of America, maybe even the next President, and I must admit - I am not worried. Pink Ladies (breast cancer awareness and fundraising), Interact (community service), and the California Scolarship Federation (which has hundreds of members) are all great examples of the opportunities we have and the sense of leadership we posses.

5. Yes, I understand that this rumor of sex at the dances is terrifying for Folsom parents. If I were you, I would feel the same way. However, you must understand that the students that have posted on this forum are simply trying to inform you of what they saw. We were all AT THE DANCE, and we did not see anything. Sure, we were not everywhere at once, but you must trust us. If something like that had happened like it did four years ago, the administration WOULD HAVE BEEN INFORMED. Just because a small amount of students do something does not mean the rest of the students would readily accept it - we would not.

In conclusion, please do not begin name calling and arguing yet again, I grew extremely angry and disgusted just reading this thread. And please do not weep for the future generation, we will soon lead and run this country and when that time comes, we will make you very proud. Now if you will excuse me, I am going to go mail in my transcript to my first college choice and have dinner at my grandma's. Thank you for patiently reading this, I hope I was not rude, I was only trying to get a point across.

great post wakeupftown. I don't want to argue anymore since it basically ruined my weekend having to deal with all this bashing. Sorry to anybody that I was somewhat rude to but I tend to get a little defensive when my privileges are threatened, i.e. Homecoming and other school functions. I hope we can all put everything to rest now and move on to more important things...like college apps!
Dang your post reminded me that I need to submit my cal poly app tonight.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everybody and hopefully all this can die down so we can enjoy the rest of the school year and the rest of our dances. smile.gif

I graduated from Folsom High School in '08, so I'm not sure what happened at this year's homecoming dance. However, I do know that at my Senior Ball, people were having sex on the dance floor. It wasn't the majority of people or anything, but there were a couple of people (and sadly, I don't know that by word of mouth. I was a witness). There were also drunk people and people on ecstasy, but that's hardly a Folsom thing.

I guess if they don't want people freaking they shouldn't play that terrible music they play. It would be interesting to see FHS students trying to freak dance to Frank Sinatra...

I have a hard time believing sex-on-dance-floor story. Am a bit old-fashioned and sex to me means actual intercourse (pardon my directness). I mean, I simply cannot imagine sex on a hard floor with so much noise and crowds and what-have-you. My guess is - people indulge in sex for pleasure and fun...how can there be any on the dance floor....

I suggest us "old timers" go volunteer at these dances then we can show these kids how to dance.
