My account wasn't hacked but it was announced at Sutter that hacking had taken place.

I'm still curious what happened. Folsom500 said Sutter's vote count went down by about 1,000. I'm guessing that Samsung found something fishy and they corrected for it.

karv1009 - Is it true that Schoharie High School or someone associated with it is encouraging multiple email account voting?

It's good to see that you and your community are taking this proud apporoach to the contest, you are very desrving of the award if in fact you do win.

However, let's not lose sight of the losses that our community has suffered as well. We have a mall that has taken at least 15 years to open and it's still in the early opening stages just now. We've had more than our fair share of specialty restaurants and shops close due to the economy and our pallet for bland chain food with a lively atmosphere. We also have people speeding on side streets and a very suspect city council that has hypnotized the voters into re-electing them year after year. Throw in a few catalytic convertor robberies on top of that and you can see that Sutter really deserves to win this contest...for the communities sake!

As already pointed out, there's no way that's a serious post. At least to the majority of us Folsomites.

Hello my name is Kim. I'm from that small "farm" community that everyone is trying to beat.. This contest was designed to help our children and our schools..It pretty sad that "some" have had to resort to cheating to win.. What does that teach our children.. Our school may be smaller than Sutter and we may be a farming community, but that doesnt mean that our children havent work just as hard to get where they are..Our community has been through alot these last 6 months with many of our towns destroyed by Hurricane Irene.. It says a lot about our community that we can pull together and show support for each other..that our school of 1000 children vs a school with several times that can hold pace with them...THATS WHAT COMMUNITY MEANS TO US!! no matter how big or small..we are there to help each other..whether we win or lose we are very proud of our students and all that they have done..and our children will be winners either way!!!

Hi Kim,
I don't think anyone here realized how small your community was, or the seriousness of the challenges you have faced recently. All anyone knew, was each school's contest submission. I don't think any of us have looked at the community behind the schools. And it sounds like you have an awesome community! Just as Folsom is an awesome community.

Myfolsom is a very active & verbal forum, but it only represents a small percentage of the community. And by "verbal", obviously we all have very strong opinions, and in this case that you are questioning, what constitutes "cheating." I've already stated my opinion on previous posts regarding the use of multiple email accounts.

As for the alleged "hacking" none of us know the details, although I'm sure someone at the school or Samsung does, but hopefully, the details will be revealed in due season.

My desire is that this all works out, and that the right community/school wins...I believe in God (while others may have different beliefs)... so I'm leaving it in his hands.

Dear friends,

Sutter Middle School, right here in Folsom, is in contention to win $100,000 from Samsung because of their video entry in the Samsung "Solve for Tomorrow" Contest. They are one of only 12 schools in the country that qualified. They currently have 68,705 votes while their only real competition (a high school in Schoharie New York) has 70,602 votes.

Sutter keeps getting SO close to passing them up, but then they take over again. Voting ends on March 12th and the more people that vote each day, the more likely Sutter has a chance to win - and wouldn't that be so cool? Won't you please take a couple of minutes to sign up, and then just about a minute each day until March 12th to vote?

See below to sign up by clicking on the link. First you register, then they send you a confirmation. After that you can vote! You can sign up both your home and your work e-mail and vote once a day.

Directions: Go Sutter Middle School! http://samsung.com/solvefortomorrow
First time you vote:
1. Place email next to Sutter Middle School video, Submit.
2. Fill in pop up window, Submit.
3. Go to email and find Samsung email (inbox or spam) labeled “no reply”, open it and click on the link inside.
4. Put email in box next to Sutter (you have authenticated)
Each time you vote afterward:
1. Place email next to Sutter Middle School video, Submit.
2. Go to email and find Samsung email (inbox or spam), open it and click on the link inside.
3. This will take you back to Samsung website with a pop-up menu, “Thank you. You have voted successfully.”

[size="5"]We have 7 days to make a difference for our kids. This is a chance for the school to get $100,000 worth of technology for our students. We have a budget crises in California and all we have to do is vote for our own local school to win a chance to help kids get the technology needed to work on projects throughout the school curriculum. It doesn't cost us tax money or donations. We just have to get 3,000-5,000 people voting for the next 7 days for our own Sutter Middle School. The students have worked very hard on this project. The school is promoting an honest, voting campaign. We do not want anyone to hack or hurt any school in the competition. All the videos are amazing. All we are asking is that after 4 years of school cuts to our students (libraries, school supplies, teachers, large class sizes...), that you give them a chance to win something to help them with their academics, technology. Our kids depend on our community to support them as they always do...vote for Sutter at http://samsung.com/solvefortomorrow .

I did a test last night and found out that you CAN vote with multiple "valid" email addresses under the same name, i.e.,

joe blow - joeblow1@gmail.com
joe blow - joeblow1@ yahoo.com
joe blow - joeblow1@hotmail.com
joe blow - joeblow1@healthnet.com
joe blow -joeblow1@ca.state.us

And on, and on, and on.....

I have a couple of questions for those who are doing this.....
Do you consider this to be honest?
How is this different than a "white-lie"?
If you are a position of authority (parent, teacher, policeman, baker, etc) what do you think you are teaching those under your authority or the circle around you when they see & hear about you doing this?

Food for thought.... :soapbox:

I hope you didn't actually vote doing your "test."
I think creating those addresses and then voting with them is dishonest.

As a family, we have three email addresses and we use all three to vote. Like Macconvert stated, our emails were created and already existing and used before the contest and we have three people in the household who are 13 and over who use them to vote. I don't think that is dishonest. If you look at the official rules it says one vote per person, not per household.

Some of the responses here are seriously disturbing. We shouldn't need anything more than word of mouth to family and friends to get votes. Raidersfan said it very well.

These children, all of them, that are entered in this contest did something productive with their time. How many times do people on this forum complain about children who are out causing trouble or being lazy? I don't see why it is so hard to support these students in their endeavor.

karv1009, if you aren't a made-up personality here on myfolsom and really are from Scholarie, you should be proud to be from a "farm" town. It sounds like you have a great community there who support each other. Sounds like the people in your city really know how to rally. I wish Folsom were still that way.

Okay. I'm off my soapbox.

Honesty is the best policy but it's up to us individually to determine what is and isn't.

Keep in mind that Samsung has given itself ample of time to cypher through all votes before claiming the official winner. This makes me think of the many Indians at Intel here, I'll bet plenty have friends and family whom are not US citizens, or perhaps even below 13, perhaps that's what happened when we lost those votes before.

No one is better than the other, it's a choice and both have their own characteristics.
In a smaller community people tend to unite strongly, easily, and quickly. The have more time to stop, say hi, and chat.
In a more metropolitan community it's hustle, bustle, hurry and get done already.

Well said... I think we all agree the contest could be run better... Good luck to all the schools!

As to the comment that Folsom isn't a "small town" community anymore, I totally disagree! Folsom may be larger than it was 10, 20 years ago... but it still shares all the small town events we have known and loved. The fact that we have rallied together for so many votes is evidence of that. :)
