I think I mentioned earlier that some folks in the foothills are already trying to schedule who is going to stand guard on the roads into their community if ebola gets out of control.  while its not going to happen, I think you make a good point, bordercolliefan, that it is very sad that we have so little trust of government now that people believe our government would do us direct harm to further their own business.  this has long been the case with certain portions of the African American community, who actually were secretly experimented on at some point in the twentieth century.  now its just wider spread.

Ok, I'm throwing this out there for opinions.

So, our family typically travels to upstate NY for Xmas -- at least 2 "legs" each way... Haven't bought our tickets yet.

Would you assume everything will be normal and go ahead and buy tickets?  Or wait a couple weeks and see if they get this Ebola thing under control??  What do you think???

I would never let a remote fear of terrorism stop me from flying... but communicable deadly disease seems like a bigger potential threat if this thing mushrooms...

School lock down in San Diego now. Student may have been on that flight with the incompetent 2nd Dallas nurse.

Supposed to go to Texas in Nov, it's a wait and see thing now if the spread continues due to lack of intelligence may need to eat the tickets and hunker down!

BC at this point I think your chances of getting this desease are pretty small---

If you are doing a lay over in Liberia before arriving in NY (that would be the cheap tickets from He double hockey sticks)-- then I would prolly say...mmmm prolly not.

And if your plans included international airports and going through the customs sections... Id prolly suggest avoiding the section that has African stop overs...

But regular travel cant be (at this point in time) any further dangerous than it was 5 months ago.

Just do me a favor..... spray people in the face with Purell when they sneeze out loud in the airport.... pet peeve regardless of threat.

School overreaction. Jeez.

I would book the flights. The flu will still likely kill more people in the US than Ebola.

So what does everyone think of the new Ebola "Czar" that Obama has appointed? Does it make anyone feel any better that there is now a lawyer as point man? I can see it now...."I had no direct insight as to what was going on with this Ebola thing...." - Obama.

Nomad-- I was surprised to learn this person case no health care or science background. Seriously?!

HOWEVER, it is funny that this mirrors something I've said to Hubby in the last day or two. I've been railing about the apparent lack of tough questions being asked by CDC personnel: "They didn't find out in their interviews of health care workers that some of them had travel planned?!" and "Why isn't anyone asking who at the CDC told Amber Vinson to get on the plane, and what instructions that person had been given and by whom?!"

Out of frustration, I said to Hubby: What they need is a good trial lawyer to cross-examine these people and get out all the relevant facts!

This "Czar" appointment is a political P.R. response to this real world potential pandemic. We need real leadership which should of started a few months ago to contain the initial outbreak.

Good grief.  Now there is a lab worker who handled lab samples of the deceased ebola victims in Dallas is being isolated on a cruise ship 19 days into the incubation period.  Anybody here been on a cruise?  We all know how hard it is to spread disease on a cruise ship, right?  Perfect place to be isolated.  But rest assured it's out of an abundance of caution that they weren't allowed to dock in Cozumel.  Abundance of caution would have meant to most reasonable people that you don't friggin' travel anywhere until 21 days is up!  What is so hard about that?

I propose we rename the CDC.  It should be CLM, Curly, Moe & Larry.

The problem is the number of people that die will far outweigh the number that survive and can give these transfusions. A cure or vaccine is needed quickly but quickly could be years!

There was something in the New England Journal of Medicine about some people being infected Ebola but with no symptoms.  I wonder if those with asymptomatic infection would have the same antibodies as survivors and that would open up more donors if transfusions did indeed help.  They should be testing those in the apartment with Mr. Duncan to see if that's why they aren't getting sick.
